No doubting the effect they want it to have, whether it will be effective at drawing water out is another matter. The valve will need to be perpendicular to the swing arm to have half a chance (venturi) of working. I wonder if they put a bike in a wind tunnel to see what the airflow is like under the swing arm?!

Does anyone know if BMW have revised the bung design yet, to keep it in place? Or has anyone found a double flange replacement? The inevitable has happened to mine and it has disappeared into the abyss of the driveshaft housing.
Not sure when it happened, or if it has had a negative effect on the driveshaft condition. However, to combat any light corrosion, I’ve emptied half a can of ACF 50 in through the hole and plugged it with a 10mm trim button for now, which I can pull out every now and then, to allow it to clear any moisture.

Sorry to resurrect this but my bung disappeared during my 600 mile running in period. Was replaced yesterday as part of the first service and after 15 miles is already missing. Dealer has told me it’s “impossible” for the bung to fall out……
Another reason not to have it done!

My was gone by the time I got home from my service, was a 250 mile journey.

I will have to check mine after reading this thread, surely it can't be that difficult to fit a bung with a flange both sides. I was surprised to read some dealers glue them in !!!! Really not good enough.

I stripped mine down last week to retrieve the valve. It was just sat in the bottom of the housing and had no visible evidence of being in contact with the shaft. Cleaned it and the hole with brake cleaner and stuck it back in with silicone sealer.
My was gone by the time I got home from my service, was a 250 mile journey.
Does seem to be a botch.
