I ordered a new GS last week can't wait, not sure which day in March i collect it, do you know if i need to carry a top up off oil for the first 600 miles?

Sorry, I can't help with what day you are due to collect your bike. Speak to the vendor, is my only advice. It's not until March you say, so you have got a bit of time.

But I can help with your oil concern. Top-up when and if necessary. How? Follow the Owner's Handbook instructions. Should you carry oil with you? It's up to you. Some might say it's a good idea, others will tell you not to. If you feel more comfortable take the oil with you when you go out. If not, don't. It's one of the very few freedoms of choice left to a man; don't waste it.

making the decision what oil to use is not easy !!

try to check the temperature each time you would love to go for a ride and the Bike is not there yet during february and write it down. this chart will help you to see what average temperature you will encounter in the future. You probably will want to change to a different viscosity just outside the Dealer's forecourt just to make sure the engine will make it to the first service.
you can bring the oil in a Tesco bag with holes . It always looks kind of cool in a BMW showroom .......:type

Thanks snerkler. Still had balls when last I checked. Went for the white - it's not so bad in real life.

Yes, knew about 6th gear but couldn't afford it. According to the dealer I'd have to buy the really really fast option pack which includes 6th gear and automatically deducts 3 points off your license.

Get a holder that goes in yor car windscreen... That way you can stick it to the inside of your visor where everyone can see it

Signed on the dotted line today for a pre reg 61 plate gs triple black with 1 mile on the clock got varios free 1st service and a Fenda extenda thrown in, first time off sports bikes for 27years hope I don't regret it said goodbye to my duke 1198, my mate bought one with me so we squeezed as much out of the dealer as poss, if I don't like it I will buy an s rr instead happy days.

Just carry a can of WD40. Less mess and when it starts getting hot just give it a good spray. No need to remove the oil plug as the WD40 will penetrate through cylinder covers provided you spray it in a figure of 8 motion while listening to Actung Baby and studying a picture of Angela Merkel in Private Eye. Enjoy the bike.

I know you won't believe me at first, but after a few months the twin cam will start to seem quite quick!
Warp speed was great in the 20th century & I do miss the wail & induction roar of a big Kwaka from time to time.
I see the GS like an early 90s sports tourer in terms of size, power, pillion & luggage capacity .... but with much better handling! ;)
