Luggage

Exactly. Of all the bikes sold with luggage (thousands), I've heard of about a dozen instances of them not fitting properly.

Its a worldwide problem not just in the UK, its more of a common problem across the pond because they have been able to get all the stuff before us uk bods, and i was told by the dealers the bikes are now coming with washers under the pillion pegs even if they don't need them. Its a cock up and BMW bodge is to put washers under pillion pegs on all bikes regardless, when i asked why some bikes are fine and others need bodging no one could give me the answer.

Also i tried my vario's on 2 other bikes in the dealers and both was different .

I think once vario's start coming thro in the UK there will be more peeps with non fitting boxes.

At cannons Braintree they have been changing the subframe so no washers on theirs!

Really helpfull or just passing the buck

What a load of poo!!

Probably written by the sort of arse who caused this mess in the 1st place.

Why can't they just come clean and let everyone know the real score?

interesting story

I had a very interesting conversation with a bmw dealer today and the issue of the luggage came up. His understanding is that in product planning the bean counters calculated the vario pannier demand based on the the number of vario pannier systems sold with previous gs models.eg sell 1000 gs's 300 customers bought varios.

What the bean counters apparently did not reckon upon was that historically people would have traded their gs but kept their vario panniers as they had already taken the hit on the cost and get this, the vario from your old gs would fit your new gs; that is until they effectively changed the bike entirely and everyone who likes varios needs new varios!, hence, from a bmw perspective an exceptional demand for luggage!!

I hear bull regularly but I actually thought this one was very credible.

I believe there is still a new set of panniers sitting in a dealer in dublin looking for a new home right now, priced in euros!

That's what I was told when I ordered my bike the weekend before last. Sounded totally plausible to me!

Typical marketing cock up probably not even bikers so no idea?

Yes but how long does it take to produce them, some people have been waiting 10 weeks I've been waiting 6 weeks is there a world plastic shortage

Its madness its the height of the touring season but you can't get any fecking stuff from bm to go touring, I've been waiting for a tank bag for several months and the robbing cnunts have had the money for it.

Back orders

So why don't you all cancel your orders and buy alternative luggage? 50% of them don't fit properly anyway.
Give BMW some feedback with your wallets. I bet they take notice then.

I like the panniers and think they are a clever design, so I for one want the bmw panniers.

So not an option for me I am afraid

Anyway I doubt if bmw would care anyway they just keep selling more bikes and cars!!

Nice looking and a clever design, But mine cracked across the plastic hinge because of the ill fitting washers. (oops I meant shims) They only done one trip to Germany.
So got rid back to the dealers & went for the trax setup.

Good luck with yours tho.

When I said I like the panniers I meant the ones on my old 1200gs, I haven't got my new ones yet!

I am hoping the new ones are as good? Love the inner bags as well, makes packing much easier than our Givi ones.

Well here's the response:

Thank you for your email dated July 9, 2013. I am sorry to learn that you have been waiting five weeks for your Vario Panniers.

I can advise that BMW Germany have been experiencing issues, these have now been resolved and the influx of ordered parts is beginning to stream through. I can advise that your panniers are due in to the dealership tomorrow. I would like to say I am sorry that this situation has arisen and I assure you that this is not typical of the service you can expect from BMW.

Once again, I am sorry that you have had reason to write to us under these circumstances.

Yours sincerely
