If you've got a M12 x 1.5 pitch thread.....................anybody know what size of Imperial/BSP/Whitworth thread is slightly larger than it

What are you trying to do then JB?:nenau

If memory serves me correct, they are all larger in OD when comparing like for like, ie 1/2" UNF to M12.

Ideally you need someone that has access to a Zeus chart. I have a copy at work if it can wait till then.

But I expect that someone will be along during the day with the answer. :clap

Your boy qualified 9th. Shouldn't you be at Rockingham?

PM'd you Alan and your engineering knowledge would help me out no doubt to achieve what i'm looking for

1/2" BSF is 12,7mm O/D and pitched at 16 tpi, ( 1,5mm)

1/2" Whit is as above. (but with a pitch of 12 tpi, you can calculate that one:D )

Johnny the closest is 1/2" BSF which has 16tpi compared to the M12x1.5 which is 17tpi. If memory serves me correct there is no direct swap as the pitch is diferent the only ones you can swap between is UNC and Whitworth or similar. I can't find my Zues book and its been a long time...... (can't find much on the net either:(

Drill size for an M12x1.5 is 10.5mm, 1/2" unc is 10.8mm drill size, 9/16" whitworth is 12.1, 1/2" UNF is 11.5mm. Is this off help? got my pocket ref book to hand.

Yes, I suppose I should be really, but I was there all day Friday & most of yesterday. No joke without pay, but thats another story:(

Maybe he can pay you now!

Cheers chaps..................food for thought

Go bigger with Imperial or helicoil/insert :nenau

Tip for using the correct size tapping drill for metric threads. Just take the pitch of the threads off of the thread diameter.

12 X 1,5 is 11mm tapping drill, not 10,5 as someone posted earlier.
