Mac won't detect Nav V

I have just tried connecting the slowest of my Nav V's to my Mac, using a brand new 'Garmin' USB lead (straight out of the box) connected directly to my Mac, not via a USB hub or any other periferal.

It made no appreciable difference to the time it took my Mac to recognise the device.

I have come to the pragmatic decision that it's just slow. I'll be patient and wait.

Is your Mac a USB 2 model Richard? Later ones are USB 3 as is the Nav V, I think. I'm sure that would speed things up. Info for checking USB port speed.
