Main beam

HI chaps, anyone got any ideas on how to improve the beam from the main beam unit on a 1150 gsa, aside from HID of course,are there any car headlamps that may fit, as a direct replacement, is the old 3 seies bmw a match perhaps?
The beam unit puts a dot of light miles away, yes i know its adjustable, but a decent spread of light is preferable.
Also i didnt want to HID it because HID takes a time to get going, and when i want to flash someone, i dont think it will light up quick enough.

I think they use an H1 bulb, I can recommend Phillips Vision plus bulbs as an upgrade, same wattage as stock but brighter and better aimed, cured the lethal dipped beams on my Citroen anyway, I got mine from the bay of E from autobulbs direct, no connection BTW and way cheaper than halfrauds.
