Hi folks

Ive got a garmin quest is there a way of getting most of
europe crammed onto the unit. Because ive got a 3 week
trip in the summer which includes spain, portugal, the top of italy,
swizerland,germany and france.

Buy a Quest 2 !!!

The whole of Europe is pre-loaded.

Even switching off "route calculation data" won't save enough memory on the original Quest.

How much are you doing of each country? I.e., can you make corridors for the countries that you're travelling through, leaving space for more detail of destination countries?

Yeh i think ive been trying to download entire countrieys
instead if just using the bits i need. ill give it another go tonight to see
what happends :)

Decide what places you want to see in particular, set the Quest to "hummingbird" mode and then it will download just enough maps for each country to give you some routing ability over the European base map that is pre-loaded and not overwriteable.

Or in other words do a rough route that takes in e.g. Calais, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Marseille, Milan, and then back to Brussels and then select the maps alongside the route…. and it all comes to 150kb and 99 maps.... you still have 90k to play with "filling in"...

With pre version 8 maps that is.

From v8 and on the map segments are much larger making it impossible to select only a small corridor through a transit area. :eek

True, but if you have two versions - ie. you've upgraded - one way round this could be to use the v6 maps for the 'corridor' and use the v8 maps for the area you wish to visit. ;)

By the way I notice that the level of road detail has been significantly improved from v6 to v8 for the French Alps region. :)
