Mapsource help

I`m planning a ride up the Californian Pacific coast highway and my GPS V only has a base map covering Europe. Does anyone know if I can download maps from a US mapsource CD onto my GPS and would it work or is there another way??

You will be able to download maps from Mapsource US CD's, but only to the capacity of the GPS V (GPS III has 1.4 megs for extra maps, dunno what the V has in the way of memory).
Probably best to wait until you're in the US, cos the Mapsource line of products will be cheaper there. All you'll have to do is find a PC to download from. You'll have to reinitialise the GPS too.

I really only need to get California (southern) in there so it might just do it. I was thinking of buying a 2nd hand item perhaps from Ebay. The thing that bothered me was the lack of base map thingy for the US on my GPS. I wondered if anyone had thried something similar.
