I created a Base Map on my computer, and copied it across to my External Harddrive in preparation to copy it to my laptop, and in the Attached file is what it shows me when I have the External Harddrive connected to my PC.

When I connect my External Harddrive to my Laptop it only shows me NT v8 & NT v9.How can I copy the other maps to my External Hard Drive.

Thanks Ken.

A point of clarity please have you

Installed Mapsource and then all the Mapping software onto your PC,
then copied the folders created by Mapsource and the mapping software to your External hard drive,
then you plan to move the whole lot to your laptop ?

?

Not sure I understand your query fully.:nenau

I have loaded all my maps onto two laptops in the house from my main pc. I loaded the maps from the original Mapsource disc's and manually inputted the unlock codes. By loading the files from the original Mapsource disc's you are setting them up in the registry files of the laptop as well.

To copy the lifetime updates over I put the latest update onto a usb pen drive and then copied the file into the garmin file folder on the laptop and extracted from there with the GPS attached to recognise the serial ID to begin extraction into Mapsource.

Worked fine on my two laptops this way. Once mapsource maps are installed on the laptops you can copy over any mapsource files you have created eg favorites, routes etc

Maybe their is a better way....but this works smoothly for me

PS/ I have just loaded all the maps onto a third laptop (Windows 7) for a family member, again no problem

Sorry Gents that I didn't reply...must be getting old......

I thought that I could transfer a later edition of Mapsource from my PC where I had unlocked it to, to my laptop with the older version of Mapsource on it by copying it to my External harddrive or a Flashdrive.
After reading what you said I find that I can't,and I have now used the Update map DVD in the Laptop to update the mapping.
Thanks for the help :thumb2
