It's in the small print of the extended warranty and confirmed by a phone call to them.
Ok, I get that “thems the rules”……but why? What difference can being VAT registered make to changing oil and filters and possibly valve clearances etc.? Would it be that a VAT registration makes it easier to establish whether or not whoever did the service isn’t your brother in law doing a job for cash?
I thought this had all been sorted years ago (possibly in the U.S.?) that provided you had used genuine parts and could prove purchase then it didn’t affect the warranty?
 
I suspect it's to ensure the person doing the service at least has a front of being 'professional ', notwithstanding the fact that Steve at Rainbow Workshop is excellent and would be my preferred option.

Not that I am suggesting you do it but in the U.S. there was a test case. A rider who had a breakdown claimed and was refused. He then proved that he/she had paid someone (not a main H-D dealer to service their bike with genuine parts and proved it with receipts, invoices and photos. Court ruled no harm, no foul and the warranty on his Harley had to be upheld. I was under the impression that this ruling set a precedent world wide?

US case law does not apply worldwide and might not even apply in more than one state unless it was in a Federal Court.

there is block exemption for cars and vans initially in the EU and now in UK as well as we adopted the same law post Brexit

when the block exemption was created, motorcycles were not included

block exemption means that as long as you can demonstrate the correct parts and service schedule were used, the manufacturer has to honour the warranty, regardless if it is a home service or using an independent. This was a law advocated for by vehicle leasing companies who undertake their own servicing such as Lex. They had no interest in bikes when they lobbied the EU Commission

That gem had obviously passed me by, but thanks, it essentially bears out what I was saying, although from a different angle. 👍
 
Last time she left she went to work as a Florist at her mum's shop. She went back to Astle's having decided that working with family isn't necessarily as good as it might seem in principle.
 
I have known Jess for a number of years and as has already been stated the only gem in Gy apart from Paul in the workshop who is also very helpful. Marshalls treat their staff like shite and I am not surprised she has finally left I wish her well not sure where I will end up with warranty work now 😤

I wouldn't be surprised.
On a similar note the chef at one of my favourite local cafés has recently left. It's basically a staff canteen that's open to the public. I believe the business owners gave everyone including themselves an above inflation pay rise and offered her 30p per week so off she went. Shame as she was brilliant and had a great rapport with customers.
No doubt the entrepreneur in B.C. would approve. ;)
 
Re Jess. She’s gone to a car dealership on the same money and hours as per Marshall’s, doing the same front of house job.
Talking to the guys in the workshop, Jess’s been unhappy for quiet a while and was having constant battles with management there. I know from past history she’s left before and then came back on better T&C’s.

Marshall’s have moved a gentleman called Gareth from the parts department in the car department to do the bike side. Gareth is at present on a weeks course to bring him up to date and help his transition across to the Motorrad side of things. I wish him luck…
When I took my GS for service there as no one at the service desk, everything was handled by the sales team. They all looked extremely busy.
Also I wish Jess all the very best for the future and who know’s she may be back…….Fingers crossed.
