Planning a trip late Aug early Sept and may have to take in Western Sahara and Atlantic coastline of Mauritania would appreciate if anyone could advise regarding if this area is safe for touring.

Yes it is.

:)

Just use common sense and don't head for the coast until you're clear of the minefields around the border.

Sounds like a good trip u got coming up.Enjoy.
Generally pretty safe in my experience.

mauretania

i passed that way last jan. and it was fantastic, went through into mali with no problems. even in jan/feb it was very warm so id guess aug/sept will be HOT!
also dont forget that youll need a carnet from the rac to get into mauretania, which can be expensive.

Safe as houses. Long, long tarmac roads apart from the track between Morocco and Mauritania. It will be hot. If you get a chance it's well worth the ride up to the Atar region - Chinguetti and Tergit particularly. Hope you like sand.:thumb2

I work as a wildlife guide here in the Highlands of Scotland and it is my plan to follow my favourite Osprey on his migration back to Africa. We hope to fit him with a satelite tracker, however I do not know where he will end up. I'm planning to spend approx 8 weeks chasing him on my bike on and off road. All this of course depends on wether he makes it back this year to Scotland, like me he is now an old man. I use him as a photographic subject for Ecco tourists who pay me to guide them into a fishing Osprey he always obliges and never lets me down. He is expected here late March last year he arrived March 28th.
