I guess that depends at what speed you want to cruise at ?
All that said i did find myself trying to change up from 6th but that is due to being used to the GS

According to Bike, it was pulling 6000 @ 85MPH
So certainly not aimed at long distance economical touring. With the power and torque available it should easily pull 20mph/1,000 in top.
I suspect it's a compromise to get the lower five gears closer ratio and lets be honest not many folk will buy one for long distance travel. It's an old man's super bike, all the performance without the torturous riding position.

And the gs does 85mph @ 5000, go one up on the front and you'll knock 500rpm off and make cruising a little better.
