Evening!

I'm still battling with my Zumo as it refuses to be as simple as it looks! I've read that the SD card needs to be formated as FAT32...mine's just FAT :D When I tried formating it I wasn't allowed as it's protected. This also means that I can't create an MP3 folder, etc.

The SD card (2GB) has a folder named Garmin with a file called gmapsupp.img at 624MB, leaving me space for music but write protection wont allow!

The Zumo (also 2GB) itself has two main folders...MP3 and Garmin. The Garmin folder has stuff like text/voice/vehicle/etc, as well as a file called gmapprom.img at 1.52GB.

Not sure if this setup is correct, as I don't have the option of expanding the memory capabilities for music or routes. I tried using it without the SD card fitted...satellites were found but no map on the screen.

Grateful for any info on how I can sort this out :beerjug:

There should be a little slide switch on the side of the SD card, sliding this should remove the protection and you can then format it.

The gmapsupp.img file is your secondary mapping file. This will contain any mapping that you've written from Mapsource and maybe that's your only mapping if the GPS can find any without the card. Either save that or don't format the card. Or you could write it to the same folder on the Zumo freeing up the card for music. The alternative is to buy another card, say 4GB, they're cheap and that would leave plenty of space for your MP3s.

624MB will be only a part of Europe. How much depends on which version of City Navigator you're using but at a guess it's only about 1/3rd at most.

Doh!!! So there is :D

will I need to save a copy of this file prior to formating & paste once done? Don't know what it is but the .img gives the impression it's a picture?

*edit* you responded before me, I'm a too slow!

Just read all of your post, going to have a fiddle tmrw, hopefully have it sorted. You've made it all a lot clearer for me now! Many thanks!!!

Assuming that you have the relevant mapping in Mapsource you could easily re-write the gmapsupp.img file, in fact with a bigger card (I think the 550 will handle up to 8GB), you'll be able to fit all of Europe on. However, be warned that the mapping has to be fully unlocked on your PC for a Mapsource created gmapsupp.img file to work properly on your Zumo. This means, if your version of Mapsource is recent, doing an on-line unlock with your GPS plugged in via USB.

Ok, now you've lost me, that sounds complicated. I'm going to try what was mentioned above for now, and will look into larger memory cards/maps when needed. I might have got the hang of it by then! Cheers!

Ok, all sorted. Cheers Bumpkin :thumb2

Scratch that. I transfered some music to the SD card & was unable to play them. The Zumo only sees music in the MP3 folder in the internal memory. Couldn't work out how to get it to see music from the SD card.

'lil help :aidan

you need to make a folder named mp3 on your card and put your tunes in that.:rob

I did, but it wasn't having any of it! 2 albums (seperate folders) in the MP3 folder, neither appeared on the Zumo.

The internal disk also has a 'Garmin' and 'MP3' folder. The Zumo reads music from this file but that's no good to me considering size constraints.

on my memory card I put two folders, one named 'Garmin' and one named 'Mp3.

In the Garmin folder are my supplementary maps a gpx folder for storing routes.

In the Mp3 folder are my albums each in their own folder.

My Zumo sees these mp3's no problem:thumb2.

Yep, got the Garmin Folder plus an MP3 folder...with albums as sub folders. Still no worky though!

Just a thought - you music is actually MP3 format? The Zumo won't play any other type of music file as far as I know.

My card has a Garmin folder (routes, maps etc in there, an MP3 folder (empty) and a Music folder (my albums in folders). This works on my Nuvi 765T which isn't too far removed from a Zumo under the skin.

It seems my music files have been stored as WMA (windows media audio) something I only just found out. So I guess my next question is how to convert a LOT of albums in WMA format to MP3? Is there a way to select them all at once & convert?
