How did you decide which Cee Bailey's screen to buy?

I need some help. Like a lot of folks, i am NOT happy with the stock R1200GS screen. I'm just wondering (for those of you who have Cee Bailey's aftermarket screens) how did you decide which size to get?

i am 5'6"....

which screen did YOU buy?
how tall are you?
what do you think of it?

thanks
greg

hi i bought the 6" taller 4"wider i am 6ft tall i have covered 7000 buffet free miles you can open your visior at a ton sit up 4 inches ans the wind blast will nearly rip you neck off am
very pleased with the results ..i have done 7k with it and the quality of the plastick is a1 no scratches ...go for it
screen size should be an option especially for a ten grand bike
would suggest 4 higher and 4 wider dont go to low size matters
you always have the tilt back doberry to lower it .making it bigger is always a problem ..dont you find??

A Little Test To Try Because It is All Personal Preference

ClearwaterBMW....While riding with your OEM shield, place you hand in a flat plane even with your eyes and note where the wind is striking eg. your chest, visor, top of helmet, whatever. Then move your hand up and down in that same plane until your hand is in clear air and note the number of inches higher than your OEM screen your new one would have to be to give you the effect you like. Read folks reviews about various makers of screens you are interested in but the sizing is up to you. :)

Where from?

Hi Franky,
Seen your post and must admit that I have been thinking about the MRA screen. What company have you bought from? Just in case I bite the bullet and want to buy one :D

cheers djack

Hi,

I brought it from HPS... I'll have the first official one in the UK!! £106ish. You can get them on ebay but they work out quite a bit more expensive. Just hope it works as well as it looks!!

Nice looking screen, did you have the option of different sizes and tints ?
I`ve been looking at the `Sport touring`screens for the GS12, they seem like good kit but at little more expensive than yours from HPS.
Shinyface :D

Hi,

I asked for a tint and think that they all might be like that.... its adjustable for length, sort of slides up and down!

Just out of interest what other screens have you been looking at?

Looking forward to your user report. I've been waiting a while for these screens....they're the best I've tried on the 1150 by a long way.

Alternative screens vs Touratech Windscreen extender

I've been thinking about the question whilst following the recent thread on Vario screens and wonder if members have any perspective to offer.
Has anyone here used the Touratech windscreen extender as an alternative to a different screen? If so how would you rate it? I know that Dolphin has one and likes it, but it is not much cheaper than a vario screen and I worry about the potential for rattling and over flexing (hardpart recommded by TT to stop this)

Anyone else here with views/experience on the merits of both options?

I am looking for the best of both worlds - a quiet screen for high speed touring but something that can be adjusted so as not to be a liability when offroading.

Hi there,

I've seen the Touratech flip up, first hand, and I found it distracted my vision. (I wonder why BMW hasn't corrected this since it seems to have been a common complaint from the outset). After riding 10,000 km, on my RTW, I couldn't take the buffeting anymore and got a widescreen from Nippy Normans. (service was great btw) I've had it for a week and the difference is fantastic. In it's highest position, I can open the flip-up (I am 5'11") and not worry about a bee taking out my eye. One thing that is taking a little getting used to is the distortion because I am now looking through the screen. The other day, I parked next to another GS that had the Wunderlich screen and it was a thicker polystyrene, and it had a slightly larger forward bulge at the top, which I would think would raise the air flow even higher than mine, and could possible allow a lower setting? Didn't see the owner to ask, but also, the Wunderlich is more costly than the Nippy Norman version. All in all, I'm much happier with my new screen. Does anyone out there want my original GS screen? I'm travelling for 2 years, so I can't really carry it around with me. Anything reasonable will be accepted, maybe even for a few nights' sleep if I'm passing through!
Good luck with your screen choice.

Nice one Jim. Have checked out the nn screen - looks good, just got to find out how much to ship one to Oz.
Are we included on your RTW trip? If so let me know what your plans are.
Good luck

Check out the `Sport touring `link on the general forum, they link to the GS 1200 screens etc.Good looking kit and many choices of size and design and tint.
Will let you know when the screen arrives and it`s results,

I've done a few thousand miles now with an MRA Vario Touring and it, virtually, completely eliminates the buffeting problems I had experienced with the standard screen ( I am 6' 2"). The screen looks really good in a graduated black tint and it hides the "untidy" area at the front of the 1200.

It's a snug fit with the Navigator GPS on a Motorrad Concepts bracket, but again the tint seems to help by improving the visibility of the GPS screen.

I think the standard Vario screen looks better, so I will be interested to hear how well it works.

Definative word on screens

Okay guys
I know this will have been covered in numerous previous threads but there doesn't seem to be one place with all the answers. I'm after a better screen for my 12. There are several out there: mra, givi, nippy normans, ceebaileys, wunderlich, touratech, etc, etc.
Can you guys who have spent your hard earned cash let me know your opinions. For completness it would be handy if you could add your height, where you got it from, price and views on delivery, service and fitment.

Note to moderator: To save this being asked again it may be worthwhile adding this to the FAQ section if it gets enough responses

Cheers all
Ralph :)

one place with all the answers

Good idea IMHO

I'll start by saying that I feel that I need a better screen, I'm 6ft 3 and many experiments with Tobinator/standard screen positioning, even using tell tails ( from by dinghy sailing) have hailed to give me a high speed comfortable ride.

So I will watch any replies with interest :D

I'm not sure what I was after but bought Tobinators and found them not particularly useful. I now have a Secdem screen from Nippy Norman and whilst it's good for stopping the screen vibrations, if anything it's now too high for the summer months. I'm 5'8" and even with the screen in the lowest position it stops all the cooling breeze. So I've come to the conclusion that the standard screen isn't too bad (except it vibrates too much).
