I don't know if anyone here can help with this one - I've Emailed Meta, but got no reply yet (may have an extended Christmas break:confused:)

I've got a Meta M357T alarm/immobiliser fitted to my Adv. I'm shipping the bike (crated) to Miami on Monday, and I need to disconnect the battery for 3-4 weeks whilst it's in transit.

Question is - how will the alarm react to this? I don't want to get to Miami and find that the thing has 'locked up' or something. Will it treat the disconnection of the battery as a theft attempt? Or am I talking bollox (that'd be a change :P ) and have nothing to worry about? Nothing on Meta's website or in the instruction manual mentions long term battery disconnection.....

do you need to disconnect the battery at all? The Meta alarm goes into 'zero power drain' mode after 10 days, whereby it's in immobiliser mode only. Very interested in the outcome of this thread as I will be shipping my meta equiped GS to NZ next year.

Post a question on the alarm section of www.mcnninjas.co.uk , there is a guy on there posting under the user name 'bikealarmblair' who owns a motorcycle alarm fitting company and will probably know this off the top of his head.

Nothing to do with power drain. The bike has to be crated with a drained tank & disconnected battery.

Cheers Simon, will do.

I've had to replace the Battery on my 'blade, which has a 357T.

The alarm resets itself when re-attaching the battery, and occasionally goes off a few seconds later (so keep the fob handy)
Once the alarm has been switched on and back off (with the ignition off) then the bike starts just fine.

All these alarms contain NV ram ( NON Volotile ) to store the data in so it should be fine with the battery disconnected, it will reset as soon as voltage is applied, set the alarm to transit ( passive ) immobiliser only mode and all will be well it will go to sleep and wake up when you apply the power at the other end.

Datatool 3

Does the Datatool 3 go into sleep mode after a while as well?

What sort of drain will it take

Unfortunately, it doesn't have a transit mode. I'm guessing that I'm best off disconnecting it when it's in 'Immobiliser Only' mode, then have the remote handy when I re-connect it.

Thanks for all the replies - particularly Animal - your post has re-assured me that I won't have a dead bike in Miami :thumb
