OK here we go
Read good stuff about both and need to replace current tourance EXP's.
Had continental trail attack's on previous GS and was fairly happy.
Like the look of the anakee 2 but not sure about the noise they apparently can make so maybe a proper road tyre i.e. pilot road 3 which is a fairly new tyre design.
I do 95% road use 5% dirt track
Tyre development must have moved on now so looking for your opinions and up to date recommendations.

If you do any dirt tracks I would avoid the pilots. Why not stick with the Trail Attack - sounds ideal for the type of riding you do :thumb2

I have a set of Anakee 2s on at the moment that came with the bike. I am happy with them, they provide good grip wet and dry. My mate on his Italian Multi thingy has put on a set of Road pilot 3s and is more than over joyed about them, says they are the best tyre he's ever had.
So i'm gonna change to the RP3s TL version only because I never go off road and don't need a trail tyre. Would still recomend the Anakee 2s if going off road tho.:thumb

I was told the TL after the PR3 simply stands for tubeless.... No udea if that us correct....i have gone the pilots too, get my bike friday, wait and see what they are like!!

I have Roadsmarts and find them brilliant and much better than Tourance EXP's, and as I don't go more off-road than gravel tracks I prefer the extra road grip.

Recently read a few articles on Roadsmart 2's and PR3's, it would seem the RS2 has considerably better dry grip / feel and the PR3 slightly better wet grip.

Quite happy with the RS wet grip anyway, definately much better than any DP tyre, and the RS2 is better in the wet so should be plenty good enough for me, especially as I tend to take it steady in the wet, and try to enjoy the bike in the dry.

I'm sure some bod has all the details on the TL letters on the side wall of the tyres. I was led to believe that there was two types, one for road bikes an another for trail bike's. :nenau I'm sure someone will be along soon to keep us right.:thumb

i have pilot rd 3 trails on my 1200 great tyre no good off road i must say i liked trail attacks 3 sets no probs

Had Anakee2s on for about 7000 miles and about 1000 left. OK tyre for grip and good in the wet but a decent road tyre will always outperform. However, I am going back to trail attachs. I found the stability at speed much better on the TAs and sooooo much quieter.

On my second set of RP3’s. Absolutely outstanding grip in wet conditions and very good in the dry. IMO though, too expensive and mileage is a lot worse than PR2’s. I destroyed a rear in less than 3000 miles. I’m sticking with PR3’s for the winter but will seriously consider going back to PR2’s next spring.

Go for thedunlop TR 91 if you like the look of an adventure tire. Excelent grip and feel. Very impressive even after the trail attacks I had before

Interestingly, not seen many reports on the TR 91...how have you found them in the wet and at motorway speeds?

I have Anakee 2s on my 1200, not as good as my trusty Battlewings on the road & useless off road. Rear badly squared off now at 4k.
Either go full spud or full road tyre in my opinion, as these dual purpose tyres are shite off road.

I have about a 1000 miles on these and think there dam fine, I'd say the Anakee 2's were the best wet (adventure type) tyre I've used but these seem as good, exelant in the drey at all speeds and angles of lean.

I just put the TR91 as well, they seem to perform well although I've only done 100 miles. As per tosser looks they are great! ;)

They are very reassuring with plenty of feedback especially from the front excellent lean with steady behavior. Havent tried them in the wet but they should be ok. They are silica based and very soft. Have done 3000km on them on twisty roads. The rear is fine but the front is half gone. Mind you I tend to carry lots of speed in the corner with plenty of lean

Decision made
After all the good feedback and recomendations I have gone away from the Michelins and ordered a set of Dunlops TR91's
Looking forward to getting them fitted and riding them

Thanks for all the replies and help

I posted a link to a comparison test a while back, the TR91's seemed well ahead of the competition.

I also posted a reply from a Dunlop techy about TR91 Vs Roadsmart and he confirmed that although the TR91 is an amazing DP tyre the Roadsmart will still be better if you really do not ride off-road (and don't care about the looks)
