Michelin Road 6 - GS1300

Michelin Road 6, Conti Road or Trail Attack 3/4, all great road tyres.

All tyres will square off though, if doing straight road miles or not hitting twisty roads. That is motorcycle tyres for you with their round profile! The part that makes contact wears.

The two brands mentioned above are imo better at keeping their shape than most. Again though, they will still flat off if not getting wear across the tread width.
Deep tread patterns? They will last longer, because there is deeper tread! It will not solve the tyre getting a flat profile though.

On my 4th GS, never had tyres last beyond 4-5k max. I never change just a rear, as when the rear is worn out, the profile will be gone on the front too, even if it looks “okay”, it will have lost shape.

^^^13k !! Maybe could make a front last 6-7k but on the wear bars and highly suspect.

This is the thing, people ride their bikes in different ways, with different priorities. Just like seats and screens, there are going to be different results and expectations.
Hard on the throttle & brakes all the time, by any chance?

Having a great time and using the bike as it should , not trying to be an advanced rider lol.... If I get more than 3k from a set I would be shocked . 3k max , Road 5 1500 miles as chocolate. Using the T33 Bridgestone at the moment and they are working very very well , just fitted a new set for the Spain trip next week and hope to get home on them around 2500 miles 7days . Conti Ta 3 will do it , just, nice to get a comparrison and a pure sport touring tyre ( on my V4s tho)

Pretty hard on the throttle, like corners and dont brake that much tbh. Which has been commented on by people following, rarely see the brake light. Very low consumption of brake pads. High consumption of tyres.

Well I didnt buy my bike to then worry about how many miles I can squeeze out of a set of tyres. 3-5 k and I am happy. Squared off or on wear bars, then they get changed.
There is no logic in spending the money that these bikes cost, then worrying about getting another 1k out of a pair of tyres.

With you there , 100 % never squared a set off mind lol 😂

Same here re brakes. The tyre fitter said ' you don't use your brakes"......you been following me ?......no, the front tyre wear characteristics are the clue.....feel the tyre with your hand ( along the circumference)......it's like worn in a wavy effect as you engine brake and the suspension pushes the tyre up and down....

Last time I had squared off tyres would be 2015. They were part worn tyres on a used r1200gs I bought…you could tell. Weird feeling of reluctance to turn, followed by dropping in to a corner. To the credit of the GS, it still handled. Didnt feel nice though 😂

Re Squaring off - is there a way to avoid this if you heading to destinations further away - I'd be interested to find out.
On my recent trip to Sweden / Norway it was pretty much a 1000 miles of straight roads to get there in a reasonable time.
The next 2500 miles were great but by the time I did the journey back it was noticeable - bike still handled fine but felt a bit lumpy / slightly reluctant.

The only way to avoid squaring off a bike tyre is to avoid long distance motorway riding. Mixing back roads with it will help maintain the profile to a degree, but if mile munching at speed is your thing, they will lose their rounded profile. Manufactures use a harder compound on some tyres around the central belt to mitigate this, but in my experience it’s more gimmick than anything else. I just accept that it will happen if I am riding long trips with lots of motorways.

Not so much being 'my thing' - but a ride from the South West to the South East in the UK - to get a ferry etc isn't very rewarding whatever roads you pick.
Equally hauling up through Denmark was interesting in itself, but pretty flat and not very varied other than being on the coast roads.
Although a lot more technical riding in Norway more than made up for that!

Anyone else feel the profile of a Road 6 on the rear of a GS is odd? The sides are almost vertical, you'll struggle to get to the edge of the tread.

The Road 5 was the same on the GS as you say. The new T33 Bridgestones seem similar as grinding out before hitting the edges , must say the grip is very good tho as was the R5 , just hope the T33 last longer lol.
