Mick, just try out the ccp mod and see. It's quite a trivial mod. If it works YAY, If it is not improving things it's a NAE! Easy. Just do it. It does not take long.

Also, I prefer the standard can but its no better on my 1150. My 850 on the other hand preferred the standard cat and can setup.

When I bought my 1150gs new I had the Remus Y-piece and end can fitted by BMW at the time. It did not affect the warranty in any way and no fuelling mods were deemed necessary by BMW. In fact, it was BMW approved item.
Personally I stick with a stock filter, but for me this is just down to ease of maintenance.
Maybe a better question to ask is whose bike had seized/dropped a valve/blown up because they ran a free flowing exhaust. I think you will struggle to find anybody.
