As these get older & some with lots more miles, they may become a potential death trap , IF it really was the chain jamming the gearbox.

When I was a kid, I had a RD350lc, 2 stroke, 60 mph & the engine main bearings locked up, slight curve on the road at the time, one hell of a rear wheel skid mark, & that was WITH me pulling in the clutch..
It appears as this locks the rear shaft completely there won't be any quick way to regain control..
I HOPE BMW look at a potential chain catcher in event of failure.. It would certainly make me feel happier..
