Hi all, just after a small nugget of info reference servicing. Bought my 2011 GSA last October when it was one year old and had 540 miles on the clock. It had just been serviced(running in service) but looking at the service book and knowing about the annual requirements, should it not have had the 12 month service done instead? It is now approaching 6k miles and 2 years old and due in next month anyway but curious as to what it might have missed out on - Brake fluid change??

The either, or servicing schedule is a joke, and not a very funny one imho!

Its not.
Its every 6000 miles and every year. Therefore my 2011 GSA is now due its 6000 mile service although it was serviced at 1850 miles in May. The 1850 was an annual service. Its now on just over 6000 miles and the service indicator is on. All very confusing and expensive. I feel as though I am being robbed by BMW.

I never understand why anyone does an annual service unless they do very limited mileage.
Mine is done every 6000 an that's it, some years I might do 10k and another year I might do 2k but I am certainly not going to pay anyone to do a yearly service as well.
It didn't caused a problem with my warranty when I had the drive-shaft bearing done this year.

I'd have thought it would be next due at 7850 miles or May 2014. Or thats what I would be doing.

I will get mine serviced properly every 6,000 miles and just do my own oil and filter changes annually if I feel the need (I have just reached 5,000 miles and not been serviced since 2011).
It is wrong that B4ndits service warning light has come on at 6,000 as he had a service at 1850 miles. Either BMW craftily did not re-set the service indicator or it is just a basic warning that is programmed to come on in multiples of 6,000 miles which, if this is the case, it's a bit sh*t.

Thats what I expected. But not according to BMW. When I questioned this I was told that the valves wouldn't have been checked in May so it would need doing now. If the bike wasn't in warranty I would do it all myself.
So guess I will just roll over and take it like a man.

If a bike was first serviced at 650 miles running in then at 7300 miles the owner had to wait 3 weeks to book in for the service so was told just to check the oil and still use the bike and not worry it would be over the mileage Would the next service be 6000 from the service done at 7300 miles or a reduced mileage of 5350 from the last service due to been late?
Not sure what BMW would say officially, but if their service is supposedly good for 6000 miles at a time, why would you choose to shorten that? What would be the benefit??
I do my own servicing at 6,000 miles OR 12 months, whichever comes sooner, or before a long trip. I change the brake fluid every two years as it is hygroscopic. If anything else gives me concern in between services such as sticky brakes, worn pads, worn tyres, gear linkage adjustments etc they get done as required.

Hi sorry the question is not clear main dealer services the bike they set the mileage on the dash between services so should it be another 6000 to the next one or 5350 miles to bring it back in line? I would think 6000 miles they set it at 5350 miles.
Explains it and I understand it. Still sounds like a money making exercise.

Lets suppose a service got done 2000 miles late - not good but not too terrible. When the service actually does get done, the bike will not need another service in 4000 miles. Its now good for another 6000 miles.
However the running in service is an extra at 500 miles so the next service is at 6000. Subsequent services will be at 6000 after the last one so mileage readings will be variable.

But, it should get done at the first annual service when the bike was 1 year old??? So it should have been done prior to me picking it up last year, now leaving me with it to pay for this year.
Wish I hadn't looked at the service schedule now
Edit: Johno, I just read in a few places that it has to be changed at the first year for some reason then every 2 for the usual reason.

Thats the way I thought it should work if there is no problem going over a few hundred miles of the service why reduce the next one to compensate the bike is serviced to cover the next 6000 miles regardless of the previous mileage between services.
