I have never had anything of a reception signal since mobile phones became the norm when at home. It was not specific to any particular operator, all were pretty much the same. I could possibly obtain a single bar of signal strength if the phone was placed on one particular window ledge at just the right angle and the atmospherics were favourable. But if you tried to pick up the phone to answer it or type a text instantly the signal was lost. If the landline failed it meant I had to walk out along the footpath into the middle of the farmer's field to get reception.

Over the years I have just accepted it, living in a rural location, but it was often frustrating when going out and about and then receiving missed call alerts or texts from several hours earlier that may have influenced the day. None of the companies had plans to improve the network further and it seemed that this was just how it must be. Things had become slightly better with iMessage / Whatsapp for texting via the WiFi but not a perfect solution.

However, a tip from a friend with EE informed that they have now released their signal booster box to retail customers to overcome instances such as mine. After a quick call and some 'negotiating' one duly arrived the within 24 hours of ordering! I plugged it in according to the the instructions; one lead to the power supply; the second a LAN into a spare port on the broadband router and then called them to initiate it. Once configured and it was working - I now have a full signal strength within the house allowing me to use my contact minutes, text allowance and if I wanted my data, although of course I use the broadband at home. Mine being an EE product will allow any EE, T-Mobile or Orange phone to work up to a maximum of four at anyone time. It does route things via the broadband and will obviously use some of the allowance there, but it appears to quite minimal on this front.

So I thought I would mention it on here in case it is of help to any others who are enduring poor mobile coverage within their house. :thumb2

Vodaphone do something similar, we have the same problem here in the wilds of Norfolk

Yes - I have seen this now, Sure Signal, although the device appears pricier it worth bearing in mind for when my contract expires as I am thinking of going over to Ovivo which supply a SIM card with free monthly allowances, 200mins, 200 texts and 500GB Data, they use Vodaphone network. Certainly it would be sufficient for the kid's phones at present, helping making a saving on our monthly costs..

They're called Femtocells

Thanks - I have just read some interesting technical articles on these devices. Still for a one off payment of £20 it means I almost feel part of a modern world. Now if only they could sort out the rural broadband project then ...................................
