Like any machine this age, you get good ones and bad ones. You might be a mechanical genius but it won't make up for the "X" years of neglect from the last fuckwit owners. But they are easy to strip and rebuild and you can get ALL the bits without hastle. Try that on a smilar Jap bike of the same age!!! Once you get on top of them they are reliable. Like gardening, little and often and you will be fine. Fck did I really say that, I'm getting truly old. I noticed that I have started collecting wood for projects that I will never start. Have sooooo many parts in the garage/shed/house for bikes that I owned years ago. My kids bought me slippers for my last garage and I wear them in the garage. God......shoot me now.

Yes Backmarker ,This is probably my 10th airhead and Ive stripped a few and built a few ,that is what I like about them is the fact that I find them easy to work on with my limited motorcycle mech knowledge ,I see them more as 1980,s bmw car technology dont know if Im coming across right but a lot of the components remind me of working on bmw cars especially the forks

I just don't get if the Dude thinks Airheads are a pile of poo, why hang out here? Mind you I also don't get why the new Triumph Bonneville is so popular, with the UK Bike press that hype it up and the UK buying public. I test drove one here. I was given it for the day and bought it back after 30 mins. Gutless, characterless, fake carbs (whats that all about?). Reminded me of a big Honda Superdream. Nah, I take that back. The Superdream had decent seat at least. Mind you they did tell me a gel seat was available as an extra as so many people had complained about the original. Apparently some guy called McQueen had one so it must be good.

Thats It for the moment ,rolled it off the bench tonight and it fired up first kick .Did not spend as much as previously guesstimated but I,m quite happy with it ,cleaned the engine box etc manualy ,vapour blasting was not an option spondooly wise the same with the wheels .Did not attack the paintwork as I like the brown pattina on ther badges etc .Frame and fittings painted ,y piece fitted as collector was a mess ,low front gaurd (thanks to a certain fellow from the Emerald Isle),new cables, exhaust roses,countless bits and bobs,seals, rotor .Anyway its hopefully going for its maiden voyage tomorrow if my cover note appears ,Happy days I own a Bumble bee
