Changed all my oils on the 1100 on Saturday, according to the book I stuck the 3.75 litres in, with filter.

It actually just stopped short of the red line at the top of the window - perfect, allowing for stuff that didn't run out the jug and stayed in the funnel etc, also minor spillage.

I am chuffed to see that after a day out on Sunday (130 miles) and to and from work, I checked the engine oil and found that is was still quite clean - chuffed to bits.

But the level has dropped to about halfway down the window - I'm not worried, but does that mean that the filter is hoarding more than expected? I'm tempted to top it up.

BTW bike is running sweet as, and not smoking.

Any ideas?

Jamie

Most likely just somewhere in the oil cooler or plumbing somewhere.
Do you park straight onto the centre stand or leave it to cool for a while on the sidestand before checking ?

DON'T TOP UP...

They all do that sir...

In order to get a good oil reading, I rest mine with the right hand side against the side of the garage for 30 mins, then park on the sidestand overnight before putting on the centrestand to check the true oil level.

These buggers hold oil in the heads like nothing else.

Only get worried if the oil gets close to the bottom of the glass...

also - i once noticed that my level was 3/4's down the glass, so took the cap off to refill, then got chatting to the neighbour. got back to the job in hand 20 minutes later and the level had risen to 3/4's UP the glass!! so maybe opening the filler cap relieves a slight vacuum that could be holding oil up somewhere??

Thanks

That's OK then.

Level is now just over the dot, I guess about 200ml down.

I've had it at more angles than you get in a porno mag trying to get an accurate reading.

Cheers

Jamie:)
