See my thread of yesterday when my oil level window blew out on start up after the bike being off the road for some time. Have fitted a new window today and checked the crankcase breather was not blocked (it was not). Can see no reason for this having happened and now worried it will happen again. Has it happened to you and if so do you know why. Need my confidence in the trusty GS restoring!
Please tell me of your experiences.
Thanks, Rob.

I've heard of the oil window dropping out due to the bike being left to tickover till the heat builds up and the window drops out and soon after the engine seizing:eek:

First the oil sight glass blows out and now my engine's about to seize! Not feeling any better yet!! Good to have any response though, cheers Noel.:eek

^^ me too - I don't think it's unheard of and I don't believe it's necessarily the end of the world.

I backfired so badly once that I blew my TB air-bypass nipples off - although in itself completely harmless (I just put them back on again!) I was very alarmed that it had happened and wondered what the feck else was broken in order for that to occur! Nothing was, never happened again, just one of those things I suppose. :nenau

Pluck

Too much oil, liquid doesn't compress and pressures the glass - air does compress. Oil should not fill the entire window.

Thanks.

Thanks for the responses.
Will just have to hope it was a one off but will be carrying a spare in my tool kit.
Can't understand why BMW don't fit a circlip to this!:nenau
