More time spent cleaning than riding.

Gave the "New bike" a few hundred more miles this weekend to break me & the wife into the joys of Beemer ownership. I adapted to it pretty easily apart from trying to start it with the RH indicator after stalling it. She was happy enough perched on the back, "slightly more comfy" as a pillion bike than a VFR.

On a more serious note, the finish on the bike is not up to the standard of the VFR. Mine is 3 1/2 years old, ridden all year round and the finish is as good as if not better than the Beemer. It just doesnt seem to beable to cope with the salt as well, and takes twice as long to clean. Most of the screws & bolts at the front end & rear brakes are showing signs of corrosion, not what i would expect from a 6 month old bike. I will probably end up changing them in the next few months for stainless or has anyone managed to sort them under warranty?

Do a search on 'stainless' bits and you will find our very own Vern has put together a great bag of bolts which dispenses with the problem once and for all. All at a very democratic price ;)

Warranty

Get stainless ;)
Getting them changed under Warranty's alright but you'll be going back and forth to the dealer like a friggin yo yo :(
And dealers don't pay petrol :)

Gates :)

Cheers guys, PMd Vern who is still busy putting the packs together at present.
ust seems a bit naff when you spend all this dosh on a bike and BM cant get the fasteners right. How much extra would it have cost for them to put SS bolts on. Are the disks another common problem? I left the bike parked outside the Mother-in laws last night and this morning there was a nice brown stain round each disk mount bolt and disk inners.

:barf

LOL

Ba I'd say you were quite fortunate with the Viffer, my Pan European which I owned from new fir two years furred up chronically, so much so it went back to H-UK twice for warranty work including complete new front disks and carriers. My 1150 is doing slightly better, but neither cope in British Winter's as well as my 11 year old PD :(

These are ok.

Take a look at the MZ Mastiff/Enduro/Baghira these thing may be laughed at but at least they come with:

1 Decent paint which includes undercoat before the top finish is applied.

2 All (most) of the fasteners are stainless.

3 The air filter is washable foam, just like a proper competition bike.

4 Having checked over an Enduro version last week I have to say that in 7,000 miles of use there were NO signs of rust anywhere. Not even where the subframe bolts to the main frame, the footrest hangers were also rust free.

5 These things even come with top quality suspension, Mazzochi forks (think I spelt it right) and White Power rear.

Each time I comment on the MZ make it makes me more decided that this will probably be the next bike I purchase, to replace my 'nicked' Transalp.
