motoscotland

I believe that they only started up last week. Saw them touting their wares at the Lanark Bike Show.

Their website (www.motoscotland.com) looks quite good.

I was thinking about taking my laddie down to Wales, to Paveys offroad school, for his 21st. This may be a better option.:D

Wife has been making off road training noises lately. Ladies only days, proper training etc etc.

I usually just fob her off ,I have been riding since I was 12 ,mostly off road for the first few years :D

So I don't see me paying someone hundreds of pounds to teach me to pick a bike up or to stand on the pegs or summat.

But she came into biking late and 'off road' for her is an unmade car park. Just wondering what she could expect and if anyone knew the guys running it.

I was in Inveraray on Saturday and the guy Clive thats is running motoscot noticed my bike sitting and came over. Seems like a real dead on guy. Will give it a go next year. :thumb2

Hi all you off roaders just back from a day at Motoscotland with Clive as our instructor. Three of us were up for the day 10.00h start with the usual safety briefing then what he has to do to gauge your previous off road experience and a quick description of what the day will be like. On the bike by the half hour and off to a large quarry with a good flat base of mixed surfaces to carry out some excersises so Clive can see what your capabilities are. It also gives you a chance to get to grips with a strange bike (BMW G650 GS) very easy bike to handle.
Then off for some fun sorry serious off road training which was well structured for our capabilities, all three of us had some previous off road training all be it mine was some 20 years ago, I'm now a pensioner. After several miles on mud, gravel (loose) and some rocky bits it was back to base for some lunch about 12.30.
After some lunch it was off for some more fun and I mean fun!!!! climbs, jumps, water splashes and whatever Clive thinks you can handle although there is no pressure to do anything you are not comfortable with. After two to two and a half hours it's back to base for a coffee and a debrief, then off home for a hot shower before every thing starts to feel sore.
All in all a great day with some beautiful scenery thrown in for good measure.
I will be back. :flag:thumb Disclaimer. I have no connection with Motoscotland I was gifted my day but will pay for my next fun/training day.
Good luck to them, I hope some on here will support them and help them get better all the time a new venture needs our support to grow.

Just back from a two day "foundation" course at Motoscotland. Took my lad over as part of his 21st. Despite the pishin rain, we had a great time.

I had been on the BMW off-roadcourse in Wales about ten years ago, and the training format was very similar. The BIG difference was that the pupil training ratio was only 5:1 at Motoscotland cf 15:1 in Wales. (plus a lot closer to home and the scenery (what we could see) was much nicer.)

As oji1391 says, Clive, the instructor, tailors the course to suit the relevant skills of the group.

If you have been thinking about the BMW offroad course but cant be bothered traveling to Wales, give this one a try and support a new local business.

And no I'm not connected to Motoscotland, just a satisfied customer.:D

Looks pretty good, maybe give it a go myself (if my rapidly ageing bones can take it now) :beerjug:

+1 for Motoscotland. :thumb
Mate and myself were there a couple weeks ago. Mate had never done off road and although I did the Bmw Welsh course 12 years ago ,I had never been off road since and I thought a refresher would be in order. Fantastic ! We are both in our 60 ,s but had no trouble with the course at all . Clive is an excellent and confidence inspiring instructor. If any one had told me I would be drifting the rear wheel on a gravel bend after two days , I would have laughed at them !
If you fancy it , go for it !!

Yippee

Called them today.... And I'm going next week.... Thurs and fri....

Good ride up from Chester....any suggestions avoiding motorways...

And 2 days off road....:bounce1

Just need some decent weather.... But don't really care....

Any recommendations on places to stay....? Biker friendly .....:thumb

Place to stay in Inveraray

The independent hostel in Inveraray is warm, comfortable & reasonably priced - £18.00 a night. Parking round the back of the hostel out of sight of the main road.
Handy for shops, pubs etc
Stayed there with 3 friends when we did the Motoscotland intro to off roading course

Did the 1 day foundation course last Sept - never been off-road before, the slow speed handling course and the braking techniques up in the quarry were amazing, I learned a great deal from Clive and would recommend it to anyone who wants a great day out :)
PS: I'm not connected in anyway to Motoscotland, just a satisfied customer.
