Hi Folks,
I know its been discussed on numerous posts but just wanted to ask what the thoughts are on the onboard range calculations that the 2011 on 1200GS TC has.
I have read about folk filling the tank to use up the expansion part of the tank so on Friday knowing i had a good 110 mile run ahead of me i brimmed the tank so filling it right up the neck to the top. I reset the trip and watched over the next few miles the range count up and up to say a max range of 178miles. Anyway tonight im doing my reverse commute and set off from home after covering 112miles on Friday, i get to 185.3 and the range is saying i have 16miles left so not wanting to chance it and given the next stop is 32 miles i pull in and brim the tank again, this time it takes 17ltrs to the brim same as Friday.
So since this is supposed to be a 20ltr tank, then why is the range telling me im going to be out in 16miles given im getting 49.8mpg (i have worked this out over the weeks) and the computer agrees then this should give me around 218 miles to a 20 litre tank. So i am getting short changed a bit on the computer. I know its only 16miles out but how accurate are others bikes??
Oh and it takes a hell of a time when you fill it to work out how far you will go, tonight brimmed and started off saying 168miles to empty, 33miles later and its saying 177miles to empty.
I suppose the only way to tell is to brim the tank carry a wee petrol can and run her dry and see what i get.
So what you all getting, do you reset the trip and say start looking for petrol station at 175miles or something, oh and riding style taking it easy say 70mph most of the time. And the gauge well it was showing no bars at around 175miles travelled.
As normal any thoughts much appretiated.
