Hi all,

Quick question about MPG, when i first got my 1100gs last year i would get around 180 miles to the tank (21 litres according to the pump) i then serviced it around september last year, and it jumped up 20 ish miles to around 200 per tank, for the last 2 months i seem to have dropped down to about 150-160, surely it cant need a new air filter already?

Any suggestions why? bikes has covered no more that 3.5k since it was serviced, is used as a daily commute 12 miles each way into london, dont wont to go and buy another air filter if its not the problem, Would a K+N do help?

thanks

Neil

A couple of ideas. Did you get new spark plugs at the last service? With your short commute in what I assume is heavy traffic, could your plugs need a check, clean and re-gap? Are the tire pressures up to where they were after the service? We get seasonal gas blends here that mix in various oxygenates during the winter that, although cleaner, results in poorer mileage.

Your fuel consumption has increased by 25%. I think you are either riding a LOT HARDER or you have a leak somewhere.

MPG,

The answer lies in your right hand, (pause for laughter), youve now got used to it and are riding it as it should be ridden! rollit of more and MPG will improve. Belive me it does make a big difference, you havent fitted TT panniers have you, these dont help with MPG, act as airbrakes.
dave ( with air brakes). GS:beer:

Tyres are new about 500 miles ago, pressures are good, i replaced the plugs when i serviced it so they should be ok, suppose i should check them.

Defo no leaks and to be honest doubt i have been riding it harder as its been worse over the winter months.

Could it be the wrong plugs? i remember when i bought them that the fella thought they were the right ones but couldnt be sure?

Motomartin Thats exactly what someone else just said down the pub, will have to get them checked i think

thanks for the input guys appreciate it

A large part will be down to winter fuel, I get about 180 miles from my1150 tank in the winter and about 200 miles in the summer.

you can't beat advice from 'someone in the pub' - i'm relieved to have been even close :D

Youre not wrong there, best place to pick up info is in the pub! He is a 1100 GS owner (94 model owned since new) as well so it makes it all the more believeable

Is it running to rich !!

When you "serviced" your bike, what was the the co reading ?.

Steptoe, dont have the tools or knowledge to do that, was going to give you a shout at some point to see if you can schedule me in at some point to have a look at it.
