Mudsling update

OTE=JohnnyBoxer;3680702]Ah....... the answer to the Crud Catcher, which is now surplus

We all know, the shite from the front will still swirl from that front fender extender and coat / chip the front cover unless you have a Crud Catcher.
So Mr Hooton's empire is safe......

:aidan

PS,

We both have extender fenders and homemade Crud Catcher on our XC's :D

With the dender wxtender, you'll never have stone chips.................it's impossible

What you have there is overkill

You could well be right JB, but I'll not take any unnecessary chances! I'll keep an eye on how marked up the crud catcher gets, and report back.:thumb:D

I'd be interested to hear from folks with the extender and no catcher, to see if they've got the usual peppering of stone chips that I got, before I fitted the crud catcher.

It's very simple ... I don't have time to read pages and pages of stuff about Mudslings and new models ... If I place an order from Nippy Normans for one of these am I 1. Going to be pleased with it ?
2. Is it going to stop my legs getting all shitty in this awful wet weather ? I thank you.

Anyone else had an email from NN's asking you to review the product?

They seem to think I've received mine.

Yep, they emailed me, so I sent Norman an email, pulling his leg.:D

Well after todays 115 mile bimble around Derbyshire this is what the front of the bike looks like with the the machine Art fender extender fitted:

Big improvement compared to no fender extender but still lots of spray - that said not convinced stone chips would be a problem ;)

Ilmberger hugger

My friend has fitted a Ilmberger hugger, and removed the rear splash guard. After riding through some fairly grotty roads today it seems a big improvement over stock. We stopped at a ford to try find out where the splashes come from.

A massive amount of water can be seen pouring from the front of the hugger, without it this would have sprayed onto the back of your legs and covered the rear of the bike.

Will a mud slinger stop this? I hope so I have one on order.

Great research:D

is there any way to keep the splash guard?

It did not catch the hugger, just looked odd because both components were not designed to be integrated.
Apparently a good tip when fitting one is to keep the invoice and visa statement away from the Mrs, can be quite a shock.

I think another feature of the hugger compared to a Mudsling is that the water coming off the wheel is stopped immediately it leaves the tyre and deflected back to the tyre and out of the front lower edge of it. In the case of the Mudsling the water thrown off the tyre will be spreading and swirling around as it leaves the tyre which will hit the Mudsling and original mudguard and repeatedly bounce back and forth before dropping down or thrown out the sides of the bike. This will sure cause more spray so may not be as efficient as the hugger. Shame the hugger is not just made of black plastic and longer so it covers more of the back tyre :blast

Magnon's Bog Baffles

Cut these Bog Baffles out of semi rigid foam sheet and fitted them just before setting off to the inaugural East Midlands Beaver Bash. The roads where really muddy on Saturday and gave the baffles a really good test. No muck thrown up around the seat area or my legs so conclude they are a complete success:thumb

Made similar baffles up out of 2mm poly plastic to fill in the sides, would tywrap to the frame . Have not fitted then as I am trying the BMW infill panels first, but may be fitted depending on the results of the infill panels. :thumb
