Mudsling update

Just got back from a nine day 2500 mile trip around Europe, ridden through a blizzard on the Grossglockner, went down a few fire tracks in the Black Forest, torrential rain all the way home today, and the mudsling has kept the bike looking good.:beerjug: And my trousers are also still reasonably clean.:D

Thanks for the update, I'll get one on order :thumby:

Mudsling and Avant Extender package ordered in the US... 115 quid for the lot , Happy days.

I think you Glitter boys are approaching it from the wrong angle:P

I also have a XCountry, which has little or no rear wheel protection and BMW have produced a number plate extender for £14

Without it, the whole of the rear seat/your legs/any pillion/rack & bag and lights get covered in water and road muck

However with it fitted the end result is that the phenomenon is 90% reduced

I was out yesterday in the Dales on wet and muddy minor roads, so decided to take some pics for you all:D

The problem

A probable solution

The clean result - a clean exhaust/rack/bag and seat

I also have this on my 1150Adv and the rear number plate deflector, works effectively well (I have followed many GS's over the last 20 years in rain and these do work)

So there you have it, fit a rear number plate deflector of some description and you will halve your muddy/legs/dirty pillion:kissy2 and soiled luggage problems

Conclusively they work on GS's

I have NO rear crud catcher, NO BMW infill panels, NO hugger, and just a Mudsling. My trousers remained relatively clean, and the back of the bike was a doddle to clean today, after a 2500 mile trip round Europe last week, in snow and rain.:thumb:beerjug:

Just back from a 2,700 mile trip to Norway last week. One GS LC had a mudsling, the other an Ilmberger hugger. They were both about as dirty as each other. The hugger was slightly better overall. To be honest, not much in it. I bought the hugger on this website a couple of weeks ago for less than the price of the mudsling so am faery happy with the results.

Notice the effect the rear guard has on the smoke from this burnout? It really throws it to the back of the seat. I'm assuming it does the same (if not worse) with water.

See what you mean that is interesting. What we need is one of the guys with a go pro or the like to mount it at the rear and go out in the rain so we can see what happens!

That would seem to indicate that the TUV guard is creating a flow back towards the bike over the top of the wheel

I got back yesterday from a 2000 mile trip around the coast of Ireland where it rained every single day. I fitted a Mudsling the day before I left and I'm glad to say that it really did work. Although there's the usual spray over the back of the bike and over the panniers, it's no worse than my previous K1300 with a hugger. The best thing though is that not once did I get wet or dirty trouser legs.

Happy customer here. :thumb2

Pleased to hear that, I had a K1300 with a hugger before my LC which now has a mudsling not used it 2-up yet since fitting! If not before I am sure it will get tested on my up coming trip to Germany, fingers crossed......

So, is this mudsling significantly better than BMW's attempt on the 2014 bikes where it looks like BMW have tried to fit something similar?

BMW haven't fitted anything different on the 2014 bikes. The Mudsling is for the 2013 and 2014 bikes.:rob

I was going by what was posted on post 156 on this thread and looking at my 2014 model which seems to have an attempt at something akin to a mudsling and, I thought, different from the earlier bikes, but i could be wrong about that. Its not as comprehensive as the mudsling thats why i asked the question, its quite expensive if its only going to give a minor improvement.
