Hi Val

I had a pair of 319 muffs from you a few years back for my 2005 1200GS. Not the prettiest accessory but I wouldn't be without them. My GS was recently written off and the Muffs took some of the damage. I now have a 2011 GSA and it looks like the muffs won't fit so well because the bars are different. Do you know if the 319s clash with the OEM tankbag with the later shape handlebars?

If so, can you do a smaller size that still fits over the hand guards, but doesn't extend so far back?

Cheers
Darren

Try them, they probably will fit ok. The muffs will fit the newer 1200s. However you may need to remove the upper part of the guard. This is usually the gray part, but in latter years these have been available in various colours. I know that some riders remove this part and some don't. I'm not sure why, but I guess that some are prepaired to push the muffs over the plastic guard a little harder than others :nenau

The smaller handlebar muffs are made of neoprene and are not anywhere near as good or effective. You would also need to remove the whole hand guard from the bike. Then the neoprene muffs will interfear with your leavers. :blast There is a guy supplying a different type of neoprene muff (sorry I don't have any contact details for him). But again it's not going to offer anywhere near the protection the 319s do.

Unfortunately I have no experiance of the BMW tank bag. My guess is that it will probably cause some interfearence with the muffs. Though this is generally only going to be in slow manouvers and very tight turns. How much do you need to achieve full lock when riding the bike?

HTH Val.

I have a 2012 1200GS with the small BMW tank bag, and yes, the muffs do make contact with the bag long before full lock is reached. I have just been out to try it, though the tank bag was empty, the bars still made full lock by way of the muff sleeve collapsing when it makes contact with the bag. My guess is that you would be able to ride the bike in almost all everyday circumstances, even with a full tank bag, without it being a problem.

If the GSA bars are even wider than the GS then it would probably be less restrictive.

Think I might invest in some 319s for my Honda PCX

Can you confirm they fit ok?

Pm for price and availability

Thanks

Hi Val and others

Thanks for your replies, especially JayC for trying for me - sorry not to have replied myself sooner (I was on holiday and then managed to forget I asked!!).

I will order some and see how I get on on the GSA. They were certainly the best and ugliest thing I did to my GS!

regards
Darren

Tested my new 319 muffs on the bike this weekend. It wasn't really cold enough to warrant them yet but it was good to try them out. They take a bit of fitting first time but once they're on they're fine. It's great to be able to wear summer gloves all year round.

I bought muffs and gauchos seven years ago and since then they've since been on my 1200GS, 1200GSA, F650GS twin and XT660Z Tenere. Just refitted them this weekend to my F650GS twin for the upcoming eighth winter--one of the best investments I ever made.

An added advantage of the gauchos is that when you fold it back over the seat when you park the bike it protects the seat from rain and dew, so no soggy bum syndrome.

Muffs

Val,
Muffs arrived and fitted, took about 5 minutes of fiddling to get around the reservoir but all done and tested - thanks
