Multi bike policy . . or not

I renewed recently renewed through Swintons, restricted to £25k total value or something though

If you fit you own panniers to your BMW then you are not insured through CN! that is what they told me, "panniers have to be installed by a recognised installer" I kid you not.

So I don't use them, and ask them this question next time you insure a bike, you have a friend coming over from the USA who wants to borrow one of your bikes, ask them for cover.

So I use someone else.:thumb

I don't know whether you have seen this thread, but if you have found an insurer who will insure your American friend for your bike, I'm sure the OP would be interested to know who they are ...

Multi bike with Carol Nash
Fully comp on 3 bikes 1150gs, guzzi 1100sport, honda xl 250 all for &190 with the usual uk/euro breakdown/recovery thrown in.:thumb

Having just read the above I told em last year I had panniers on occasionally , different exhausts etc and said no probs to me ?? but I will phone and re-check now I think !
Mind you they were on when I bought the bike second hand 3 years ago so have no way of knowing if 'official' or not just as they have no way of proving otherwise ?

Insurance issues

I asked for a quote for my much modified airhead from Carole Nash, they really did not want to know. FJ were much more relaxed, 2 bikes, agreed value, net cost around £100 after the BMW club discount.

Carole Nash for me.

1200GSA
K1200LT
955i Speed Triple
ET4 Vespa

£450, but I live in a riot friendly area. It started at way over £600 this year but they 'negotiated'. Find their policy extras are very good..

ebike ...............
.. I have changed 3 bikes since April. All changes are done online and there is NO admin charge.

That no admin charge for changes is excellent, but I'm a little unsure about ebike after reading experiences of them on here.
Bennetts for me, at the moment although I'm unsure how good they are if push comes to shove.
3 bikes £92 tpf+t but I'm old and slow and they know that plus £25 admin fee per change.

Just had my renewal come through from Bennetts...so I thought...it was actually to tell me they would no longer insure me on a multi-bike policy! An R1150GSA, R100GSPD, G650X-Challenge, and Harley Nightster - 31 years riding, never made a claim, non-urban address. Rubbish!!!

So have they given you a quote to insure the bikes individually or just told you they don't want your business ?

I have 8 bikes insured with Ebike on 2 x 4 classic policies that come to £420 in total (£210 per 4 M/Cs). New bikes have been added and insured bikes taken off a policy online at no extra over the previous 3 years. The bikes covered include a 2011 Moto Guzzi California, ST 1100, FJ1200, Gpz1100 Unitrack, GS850 Suzuki, 100GS, 80G/S and Basic. I have never claimed on a policy but don't expect Ebike to be brilliant if I need to claim at this sort of money.
Imho, it would not be worth claiming for less than say £2000 because of the knock on effect of making future insurance quotes very expensive, which means I ride my bikes like they are insured 3rd Party even though they are fully Comp!

@Hustler - they tried removing the Harley and running the 3 x BMWs on a multi bike policy as they thought it may be this but still came back as refused...gave up as assume the cost of 4 individual policies would be far higher.

Will go elsewhere - any recommendations out there?

Mike
