Did a Bikesafe program this weekend and one of the coppers was on a Moto Guzi Stelvio with nice panniers that was on loan from a dealer. The bike looked very impressive and I ask the copper what he thought. He said it is all over the place and it was certainly no GS. He couldn't wait to give it back. Beautiful bike to look at though...

Tell him to pump the tyres up. Were they the trax panniers?

I've had lots of bikes in my time ............. but I now sit on my 2008GSA (with low Sargent seat) and conclude it really doesn't get any better.
Yup, my Aprilia RSV1000R could blow it away on acceleration: but when was that really used? Certainly I can overtake most things I want to with ease and crack along at an alarmingly quick pace on the GSA.
As to handling - well I love the telelever setup. Gives you so much confidence to brake in corners (naughty) and the GSA has a serious bit of dive. Makes you think you're on a conventional bike?
The riding position is to die for. I've done serious mileage on mine and my guess is that there are few other bikes (mainly BMs) that you would get off after 400 miles and feel so relaxed.
Reliability? Well everybody on this site seems to love knocking GS' - but in my experience they go on and on. And if they do break down they are repairable - often at the roadside.
I could go on but better not. There is a reason why so many GS' are sold and it's not just because Charlie and Ewan rode them to wherever. They are a seriously good piece of kit in my opinion.

It makes me wonder if he had bothered to set the bikes suspension up, I have no handling issues with mine.

I'm glad I have replaced my previous 07 GSA with a new 2010 DOHC GSA because I nearly switched to Ducati Multi Strada 1200 after its impressive test ride. I did consider Moto Guzzi Stelvio. Both Ducati MS and Moto Guzzi Stelvio look great but for many reasons I decided to stay with GSA as she is great for travel two-up with over 200l luggage! Had I got spare cash for a 2nd bike, I won't mind owning a Ducati MS though!
