06 1200 GS, 2600 miles, Been left for a fortnight and battery was flat, got it going with booster pack and went for a blast.
When I really wound it on to overtake or coming out of a corner, betwwen 4000 and about 5200 rpm there seems to be 2 or 3 judders then its fine. Feels like its stuttering ( not a technical mind ). If I`m gradual through this rev range then its fine, only occurs when I really wind it on.
Any ideas?

If it were an 11xx it'd be screaming 'I want a reset'.......(fuse 5 out, ign on, throttle twice over etc etc)

I don't know how the 12 system works though...I presume there is a way of resetting/rebooting the ECU and I'd lay money on it being that......I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable of your brethren will be along soon to tell me I'm talking bollix though :D

Went for an hour with Ian today Bill and he said the same thing. enjoyed a ride on his 1100 though as he made his mind up.

When you disconect the the battery - i.e simular to it going flat - you need to reset the throttle position sensor.

Switch the bike on and let it go through the start up process but do not start the engine. Slowly open the throttle fully twice and then start the bike. Problem may then have gone.

Worth a try:)

2005 model 1200 GS, I've disconnected my battery several times, wiring up lights etc. and I've never bothered with the reset procedure. Bike has always fired up and ran properly.
I did have to do the reset procedure with the 1150 I had.
I do recall a thread, I'm not sure if it was on UKGSers or ADVRider (most likely ADVRider) mentioning the same symptoms that was traced to faulty plugs.
It may be that the battery disconnection and the problem appearing are coincidental.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Brian.

Gary, did this all happen on the same ride (after you'd started it and then went off chasing MMOB around the countryside?? :D)

Again, I may well be wrong (it's happened once or twice  ) but IIRC, the ECU of a 1200 resets itself each start up.......You might find that if you start up tomorrow, it'll all be OK and she runs fine......

If she doesn't (and assuming I'm right about the resetting thing with not touching anything until it's done) then it sounds like a physical problem rather than a 'brain' problem.

Back to square one then  :(

EDIT I think you have to let it do the whole diagnostic startup thing..whereas you might normally just start it up, ride off and let it all sort itself out)

7 months with the battery off while I was in sunnier climes (not out of choice) and never bothered resetting, just stuck the battery back on and she fired up fine and has run great (touch wood!) 06' 1200GS

Plugs or coils. usually the second set rather than the primary set.

Sounds like plugs/coil extensions. I had the same experience a couple of weeks ago. North Oxford put new plugs and coil extensions on and 'hey presto' fault gone.
