My wife is making me do this...

I've been formulating a cunning plan over the last few months and have now told the wife.

I've looked at all the advice on here and other sites and am planning a trip to Morocco late September on my own and my 1200gs, camping and some hotels when i'm feeling lazy. I don't want to stay on the paved roads and fancy following some tracks found at this Site. I plan to be in Morocco for 5-7 days depending on my mood. With the whole trip being about 12 - 14 days away.

The deal with my wife brockered tonight, is that i have to ask you guys what you think before i'm given a pass:

1. Is it safe for me on my own to travel to and in Morocco and i've been told to tell you that i've never been out of Europe?

2. Am i being irresponsible and damn right stupid?

3. Any good tips apart from "don't crash", "don't get in a fight", and also as she has said "stay away from the women"

Any comments greatly appreciated and yes she is standing over me as i write this

You'll probably find people telling you to go with someone else as well if you're doing gravel/sand....and that's right, it is a bitch picking up a bike for the umpteenth time on your own and solo, you'd have to be a lot more cautious about where you ventured for that reason, but it's doable as long as you're careful.

Having a big stupid friendly grin will almost always get you out of trouble as well.....even in the middle of the desert there are people who will help you out if you have the right attitude.

Thanks

Thanks for the help, especially about the sausages, i think i'm ago, she's riding around Iceland at the moment so i reckon that gives me a good excuse - she's on a horse though.

Cheers

Morocco in Sept

I'll be in Morocco in late Sept for about 10 days, I'm meeting a few people here and there, if you fancy meeting up for a beer somewhere drop me an e-mail and we can sort something out.

Cheers

I've done some of those routes, see here. Some are a lot easier than others. There was a massive rock fall early this year near Cirque du Jaffa which made the Imilchil to Midelt route impassible (I can't remember where I read that).

1. Morocco is wonderfully safe for tourism, the police are helpful, and most of the main roads are great for bikes.

2. Going off road by yourself isn't such a good idea, having said that, many do it without problems. Wear boots with *extremely* good ankle support and don't be afraid of turning back.

3. Taking full camping gear is a pain when hotels are so cheap. Always make sure you are well hydrated and carry lots of spare water.

What dates are you guys travelling?

All being well My ferry to Bilboa leave Portmouth on the 29th Sept. Which means should hit Morocco on the 2nd October for 8/ 9 days.

Robscooper, Baz,

I've now got full permission - hurrah!. The ferry to Santandar is booked for the 5th October - there's are party on here that i've got to attend which is why i've had to leave later than i wanted.

Robscooper will you still be there? - great to meet up - let me know: [email protected]

Baz - you should definately still be there - fancy a beer?

Zmeagol, thanks for the advice. I've heard from several forums and people that its safe in most parts, i suppose it's like anywhere else - just don't be stupid. I do want to do some tracks and stuff but i'm aware of the dangers and won't be too silly - good advice about the boots and hotels thanks - they're easy to book into and find?
