Found the start of this Right of Way today but didn't want to venture too far up it cos I was on Tourances - anyone know where it ends up before I go back and check it out some more?
Trailwise notes say:
last car usage note, made 31/08/2005 (by user 481) -
the initial climb (going north to south) would be difficult in very wet weather.
Hi Adam, not quite sure why you say "obviously" its now an RB? There were certainly no signs saying anything other than RoW.....think I'll go and check it out on the XC on Sunday and see whats what;-)
Because if the OS map is correct (and my assumption of where you meant) and it was a RUPP it was made RB by NERC. This is backed up on the Trailwise map that shows it as RB status.
A valid claim may or may not have been put in for it to be given BOAT status, but even if it has I doubt it has been processed as of now so is still an RB.
If it's not marked as such on the ground that's handy tho.
Each county council does it's own thing.
Hampshire has one as well but most do not unfortunately.
Trailwise is the next best thing if you don't have time to go to the council offices and look at definitive maps (most of us?).

My colour perception always was crap - you're right, its not a RED Byway marking its a RED marking, and hence RB . Real shame cos its a lovely climb up to the top of the Downs! I'd like to see a horse drawn carriage get up there thats for sure

Just because its an RB doesn't mean you can't legally ride it.
It just needs a valid claim in to upgrade it to BOAT.
Contact the TRF (not me!) and someone should be able to tell you if that is the case.
