my nav v usb port is playing up and wont register in basecamp, does anyone know if you can get a cradle for the nav 5 and connect the cradle to the laptop via the cradles usb (if it has one)

Last time that happened to me i tried a different cable...
and bugger me it worked..!!!

Definitely a cable problem, its very fussy. (Also and I don't know if there is any truth in this, but I found that opening Basecamp first seems to awaken the necessary USB drivers, in my Mac OS X system)

thanks for that but the port is faulty you can see that something has snapped off inside the port, its just out of warranty as well:blast i just thought that if the cradle has a usb port i could connect it to the laptop that way?
the unit works fine on the bike

There is no desktop cradle for the Nav V that I can think of. Whether you could cobble one together out of a car mount is pretty doubtful and ultimately a waste of money if it doesn't (as is most likely) work.

As the device is 'Just out of warranty', throw yourself on the mercy of the retailer. Failing that try Garmin (UK) they are often very accommodating.... Premium price for a premium product and all that old mumbo-jumbo.

PS Try the site's dedicated GPS or computer sections.... You are in the 1200GS section, with all that that means.

just put in a online repair request to garmin so see what happens, ill keep you updated, cheers for the advice:thumby:
