NAV 6 New unit update

Mines still under BMW warranty so if this alleged updated one solves the screen issue great, if not I can still get a refund.
I was offered a refund on both occasions.
Each of the units was registered with Garmin under my account, as will the one coming in a fortnight be.

Mine too. Doesn't stop it all being a bit tedious though...

Why did you go back to BMW, Deal directly with Garmin only. Most BMW dealers don’t have a clue what’s happening with the Nav6 and will see it as opportunity to make money. Garmin have been brilliant and I’ve never even mentioned it to any BMW dealer.
It is under warranty, so didn't want a third party involved in case the warranty was affected.

Will this be last the communication of this type I will have with Garmin? Is this really the final solution to it all? after all this time.
The one I’ve just sent back, at their request (No:3 Nav V1-1) has been faultless since getting it back in April.
Anyway, I won’t know for sure until I get the new bike in March.IMG_1902.png

The one I’ve just sent back, at Garmin’s request was the second replacement supplied directly from them and has been faultless since I got it in April. Anyone with a Nav 6 should get their name, email and serial number registered with Garmin themselves until this is finally sorted out.
The one I sent back before christmas was my 3rd and worked faultlessly for a year, until one day - haywire. I'm not sure what the replacement unit is I've received. I assume it's one of the new ones.

The day before I was due to receive my 3rd replacement Nav 6 I got the email inviting me to apply for the new super dooper one that is supposed to fix all the problems. I rang Garmin and asked if they had sent me one of the new. improved units. I was informed that I would get one of the old versions and that you will only get the later unit after you reply to their email inviting you to apply for the new unit

I duly received my replacement 'Make Life a Ride' Nav 6 and returned it to Garmin, unopened, yesterday. It was delivered today. I'm hoping to get my new, updated 6 by weekend

Maybe the subject of a previous thread but where did you find the survey link in order to apply for the cap touch version?

I received my Nav VI + l in November and whilst I don’t have a big trip maybe until later in the year, so I can test what I have, I also don’t want it letting me down as it did on this trip.

There is no ‘survey’ link and you don’t ’apply’
I’m getting the cap touch version after a long process of reporting the faults direct to Garmin and being on their list of people to get the redesigned version, eventually.
Some have returned theirs to the purchasing dealer and therefore not been on Garmin's list.

I’m assuming from what I’ve read that the cap touch version won’t work with a gloved finger, which I will find a little annoying if that’s the case.
I will be receiving mine tomorrow (Friday 5th) so will post any changes I see.

Where does this story of the very latest Navigator VI screens, not working with a gloved hand, come from?

It’s all assumption based on the descriptions of what cap touch is. I’m going to try mine later. It arrived by UPS about 10 minutes after I’d typed post #34 above.

Beats me why we keep buying them. I'm on my second and it's started showing the signs intermittently. Meanwhile my old Nav5 just keeps on going...

Indeed so.

My first Nav VI was faultless. I sold it via the forum.

I then had a second Nav VI, bought originally from Bahnstormer. As soon the device played up, displaying all the frozen screen / ghosting nonsense, I took it back to BMW (Park Lane). Park Lane agreed that the device was definitely faulty and still in its warranty period, offering to replace it then and there with a new one from their stores. I simply said that there was now sufficient news on the internet to show that the Nav VI unit (as a model) was definitely unreliable, so I would like instead to have a full refund. This BMW (Park Lane) agreed to. They took the device back, along with the original Bahnstormer receipt and credited me back my money. End of story.

This is getting very close to, “My mate says, he read on the internet that a bloke who knows stuff says….”.

There’s a long list on the Garmin website of all their devices which have capacitive screens. This list includes:
  • zūmo XT GPS navigator
  • zūmo XT2 GPS navigator
I have two zūmo XT GPS navigators, both of which function perfectly well with my gloved hands. Either:

A. I have been very lucky, twice.

B. Garmin don’t know which of their devices has a capacitive screen.

C. Garmin have altered the capacitive screen on the zūmo XT GPS navigator(s), to accept gloved fingered input.

In case of any doubt, here is a video of some old bod, using the XT2, with gloves. Go forward to about 4:40 to watch him prodding away.

Edit: I see our posts crossed.

Delighted that your capacitive screened device does work with gloved hands. Let’s hope that it’s the end of your Nav VI problems.
