My Nav v USB port is broken, Can anyone recommend some one who could fix it, Ive rang Garmin and they don't want to know

Check first if it's warranty, if it is get BMW to give you a new one.

Garmin will do repairs and / or an exchange if it is out of warranty - just like they do for the 660, Nav IV etc etc etc - though they might charge you.

Failing that, Google electronic / electrical repairs, somebody in the world wide world is bound to be able to mend it.... Even you can have a stab at it.....

I wouldn't recommend a repair as all the components are fiddly surface mount things and very tricky to fix depending on what the problem is

Back to Garmin if you want to safeguard your hard earned spondoolies!

I managed to dismantle and fix a USB connector on one of the earlier Garmin sat navs some years ago for someone on here - if you get really stuck I could give it a go but no guarantees because it can be very tricky even with the right tools.

thanks for the kind offer..after sitting on it for a few months i rang garmin again and spoke to another guy at Garmin who was a bit more interested in my problem, the problem was i bought it of this site still under warranty but they said BMW had to sort it, my local dealer wasnt interested, so i gave Garmin a last ditch call and they sent me a new replacement

I'm interested in how the micro-USB got broken / broke / ceased to function. Anyway, hats off to Garmin for fixing it, once the OP had got up from sitting on it for months. It's not some sort of egg, you know.

The one I fixed on a 2610 had broken solder joints on the surface mount USB connector from what I remember - the original soldering didn't look that brilliant so a bit of stress on the connector snapped the joint, just needed re-soldering.

So your local dealer is now an ex dealer for you ?

Name & shame

If you did not buy it from them why should you expect them to fix it for you? Your redress when you buy a product is with the person ( retailer/dealer ) that you purchased it from.
I have every sympathy with the owner, but can't understand why you want to slag someone off when it is not their responsibility.

BMW warranty can be done by any BMW dealer. Didn't come from Argos did it? His dealer is a t**t for not supporting his brand.

It was bought second hand. He was not the original purchaser. That is part of the risk you take by buying products like this.
Why use a public forum to slag someone off when it is not their responsibility?
