Not sure. You can certainly choose to add more, normal or or less detail on the screen though what this leaves & removes I'm not sure.
Personally I always have it set to 'More' as I'm a nosey fekker & love to see what's around & about as I travel through areas unknown to me. That's my idea of a proper Adventure. :augie

I've just set mine to 'less' & it still shows cash points, petrol, eateries & supermarkets.

Timaloy - I'm not referring to what you can select to see, more or less. The problem with the 660 and Nuvi 765 is that when you want to see Fuel, just fuel... It still gives you all the corner shops.
Even a Montana, intended as more of a handheld unit has a better selection!

So - if you want 'fuel' from where you are...what's the list like?
 
Oh I see, sorry.

When I select fuel I'm only given places that actually sell fuel - though that does naturally include supermarkets & petrol stations that have shops attached to them.
 
I raised this issue with Garmin a few years ago. Like you my Nuvi 765 combined corner shops with petrol stations (my more recently acquired 660 does the same). Took a few emails back and forth for them to admit there was a problem. Once we reached that stage I made the foolish assumption that they would roll out an update to address it. Well, nothing has materialised... :(

My recently sold StreetPilot 2720 didn't do this, instead offering another layer of options in the POI selection process that then only just showed petrol stations. I believe it's a combination of firmware and the way that the POI data is categorised. The firmware in older models can cope yet more recent models can't. This problem doesn't seem to happen in Europe from my experience though, maybe it's something about the great British corner shop :nenau :rolleyes:
 
It's not Garmin's fault per-se that corner shops appear as petrol stations. It's more a fault of the way the station operators described their data to the mapping company. If say SPAR have a small single or twin pump station attached to what is nothing much better than a fag shop and Readers Wives' outlet, and then close the pumps, it's hardly surprising Garmin doesn't know.

You can report mistakes very easily. Do it.

I must admit I have fallen foul of the 'It's a Chinese takeaway not a petrol station' hazard myself, most recently last summer in Folkestone. All part of the Adventure bikers' experience :D

Dumbass question so I apologise in advance but how do I do that? They've got shed loads of the speed limits round here wrong since Lincs Police (or whover sets the limits) decided we can't be trusted in anything above 3rd gear.

I noticed a couple of other things yesterday when I was pootling around. These are probably old hat but I thought I'd add them anyway.

As I was approaching my final destination, Rainbow BMW in Rotherham, about 3 miles away I got a grey line across the top of my screen asking me if I would like it to 'Search for parking?'. As Rainbow have parking I ignored it & within another mile the grey line had gone but I had a small Parking icon 'P' embedded on the l/h/s of the screen. I hadn't set it up to do this as far as I'm aware, & didn't need it as rainbow have plenty of on-site parking but neither option was obtrusive & when I head to larger towns that I don't know so well I will be delighted if this function appears again.

When you're riding along if you tap the screen (outisde any information/icons/buttons) you get the zoom option, tap it again & all buttons & icons & your dashboard disappear leaving you with just the map on full screen, all 'clutter' gone. This is quite nice and I would imagine I'll use it when I'm doing big miles & don't really need anything else on there.

And finally, the Nav 5 has a great facility when you're on motorways/major roads in that it shows a picture of the 'actual road & signpost' you see when your approaching the junction you need to exit at. I like the fact that it only shows it at this point as it means there can be little confusion about whihj junction to take & which lane to head into. This 'photo' does take up half of the screen though but again, once you're confident of where you're going, tap the 'photo' & it disappears bringing you up the normal map screen (including dashboard/buttons/icons etc.

I have to say I'm not a Garmin fan but really, really rate this bit of kit. :clap

Does the screen still act as a rolling map as you move, when it is in this uncluttered mode that you got to in the manner described in bold?
 
I have ordered one of these to go with the GSA in March but cannot find anything about using or listening to music. Do you just download individual mp3's onto an sd card or do they need to be put in a separate folder?

Nothing found in the online manual .. :nenau
 
I've not loaded music onto mine yet as I'm still waiting to buy a Bluetooth headset. I assumed it would need to be loaded onto the SD card but that guess is based on zero knowledge or experience of ever loading music onto a Sat Nav..

I'm sure someone will know though & I look forward to seeing the answer.
 
Not the same device though the methodology is much the same if you are using a Nav V, a PC (or a Mac) and / or coming from songs in an iTunes library...

Beggar me!!!!!!

I had no idea you could convert your i-tunes songs to MP3 format.

I can't tell you how many hours i've spent uploading all my albums onto my Laptop so that I have them in both MP3 & i-tunes format. In fact never mind hours it runs well into days. :blast

I used the free piece of software called doubleTwist to download music from my iTunes library to my Nav IV (it was recommended by someone on here)
- it was easy and painless
 
The advantage, at least to an unsavvy IT idiot such as myself, of using iTunes to do the work is that it saves downloading third party software.

ITunes may well be the long winded way to do it and / or encounter the seemingly continuous moan that Apple is the very creation of Satan himself; though that monicker may well already be awarded to Sky TV, BMW franchised dealers or Tesco's store in Rotherham. It's often hard to tell.

PS I dont use muzic on me GPS as it fecks wiv me ability to avoid fallin of.

I agree totally. Music can often interfere with the sheer pleasure of riding a bike, which is of course why we invested so much in our steed of choice. But there are times when, of necessity, you are barrelling along a motorway/autobahn/autoroute when some music to lessen the tedium is welcome

Initial thoughts and playing with it .... impressed ;)

Now do I sell my ageing but still well able Nav IV and recover some outlay? Or keep for t'other 'bike?
