Navigator V - Review

Absolutely.

Maybe I am not doing it correctly. Here is what I did on a ride (several times) yesterday.

Riding along.
Not following a route.
Tap the screen. The + - show.
Tap again somewhere not on the buttons. The dashboard goes away.​

So, what happens is that my icon (little blue triangle) continues to move as I roll along. That is normal. BUT, when my little blue arrow icon gets to the edge of the map, it goes off the screen and the map does not scroll.

Here is what it looks like. Note the arrow in the lower left, which on my other (and apparently this) Garmin units means the screen is fixed rather than scrolling.

From your remarks, I had the impression that I would not ride off the screen like I did. Was I misunderstanding your remarks? Or, were my steps to go into the full map screen incorrect? Does your screen look like mine when you do this?

Crikley, no you're definitely doing what I did & my little icon stayed in the middle of the screen & the map scrolled normally.

Not really sure how to help other than maybe reset to the factory settings if you think you might have altered something unintentionally?

I'll have a look at mine when I have a second or two to see if there's anything obvious. Might be a few days though as the wife's going into hospital for a minor op so all resources will be pointed in that direction.

I will have a look when I can though.

My little icon (ho ho) will vanish off the side of the map / screen ..... Depending on what scale the map is on.

Tapping the map will bring up the Zoom buttons and the on-map search button if the scale is at or below 0.8mi. BUT, if you move the map at all you will be in Browse mode where the map does not move. You can tell you are in browse mode by the Return button in the lower left corner as Emoto indicated.

Yes, that's a very good point DRTBYK. So, in essence I tapped the screen when I was on a 'wide angle/long distance' view. That would explain it.

Don't think so. Timaloy was suggesting that he made his original statement because he had his map zoomed out to beyond .8mi. In essence his entire route was visible on the map so he couldn't tell that the map wasn't moving under his position.

No, Emoto's reading it right.

My map was zoomed out but not to the full extent by any means and the map was scrolling nicely.

Interesting that you can now share data with another Nav V, via Bluetooth. Like the reviewer, I had always wondered why Garmin had never enabled this (and mildly surprised nobody had ever hacked it) instead of making owners fiddle about with memory cards. Probably them sealing the battery and sd card away behind a screwed down cover prompted it.

When generally looking at the maps, drawing it across the screen, it doesn't show any of my favourites, it's as if they don't exist

Go to favourites and select one, it now shows on the map

Do you have your Map Layers set to show "Places along the road"? Map->Options->Map Layers: Check-"Places along the road". Or, Settings->Map&Vehicle->Map Layers-> Check-"Places along the road."

Yup .... >Places along the road< we're checked.

Thanks Dan, but the 'favourites' aren't there at any scale

Micky, I think you've stomped me on this one. The only thing I can suggest is that you do a Reset but that will wipe out all of your settings (won't mess with your data that was Imported - but it will delete any you've created on the NAV5). So, if you're going to do a MR, back up your data to BaseCamp first.

Sorry to be a pest, but how do you do a reset on the V?

Power the device off. Then, in Landscape mode, Press the Power Button for 5sec. or until the boot screen comes on then press and hold the lower righthand-corner of the display. No need to push to hard. You should get the "question" and just answer "yes". If you think you might need to do this and aren't near a computer to backup your locally created "Favorites" just go in to the Saved Places and "share" them to your SDCard.

Alternatively, if you want to do a factory reset go to the Home screen, the one that shows 'Where to?', 'View Map' etc.

Click on 'Settings'

This takes you to 'All settings' with 'Map & Vehicle's, 'Navigation' etc

On the top left is a button of 3 horizontal bars. Click on this.

This brings up 'Cancel' and 'Restore'.

My guess is 'Restore' will restore factory settings.

This is, however, just a guess albeit I'm hoping a logical one.......

It does "restore" factory settings but it does not clear all of the buffers and reset all of active memory - which a master reset will do.

Master Reset as per your fine instructions Dan have worked a treat

All my 'favourites' now show on the map

As you said though, pity about the poor number/colours of the few symbols available
