OK, smug git gets his comeuppance :(

I've just tried to get the 2 PCs currently on the network to talk to each other and share a printer and files.

The problem I'm hitting is that the firewall (ZoneAlarm on both PCs) is blocking access from each other. If I drop the firewall then I've got no protection on the internet. Catch 22.

I'm running the paid for version of Zone Alarm but it doesn't allow me (afaics) to set specific IP addresses in the Trusted Zone.

The feed from the NTL box is into a Linksys router with both PCs connected to the router.

I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere.........

Any ideas????

Cheers

Dick

I have NTL cable which is shared by 5 PCs via a Linksys WiFi router. We don't need ZoneAlarm as the router blocks most stuff and the new SP2 version of Windows XP seems to handle popups.

When I bother to run Adaware it finds nothing more than a few tracking cookies.

i have ZA pro too & i'm sure you can add subnet addresses to it, but i'm surprised you have to. i find it's all automatic.

maybe it's cos you are using w98 on one pc  i seem to remember i did have to enter the subnets manually once, but can't remember how.

do you know the addresses assigned to your pcs? at command prompt type at a command prompt, type ipconfig/all

In ZoneAlarm, you can add both a single IP and an IP range to the trusted zone.

Dick, find the screenshot in Cookies post above and click the ADD button - all will be revealed!

So that's what the ADD button does!
