Neutral light and battery light fault

Can't get my head round this one.

When I start the bike up the neutral light and battery light come on. I think this is normal until you rev the engine slightly and the battery light goes out.

Well, mine doesn't any more. The battery light stays on until I put the bike into gear and then goes out. As soon as I'm back in neutral the battery light comes back on.

The battery seems to be charging OK and I haven't added/removed/fiddled about with any of the electrical system.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you have an earth fault or short on earth side

Broken Crimp in Loom??

Hi,
Had this fault before and replied to a couple of guys with the same problem - see this post:-

In fact I think one of the crimps on my replacement loom has broken now!! - as I said the last time, crap design??

I've had this problem for the last three or four months & it's has been driving me mad. I'll be pulling the front of my Bike apart tonight, I'll post the outcome, let's hope that this is the problem.

Just to compare notes then Geezer...

When my fuel light comes on both the neutral and battery lights come on but are very faint.

When I start the bike in neutral, the neutral light is off but the HID indicates 0 as the gear.

I won't get a chance to pull the front of the bike off until at least the weekend and probably next week but I'll post the outcome too.

Symptoms Vary!!

Hi Guys,
Just thought I'd mention that symptoms will vary from bike to bike - the break might be in a live feed or an earth or affect different lamps depending on which crimp is broken - there are at least five of the bloody things in that short loom!!!.
A temporary (permanent??) repair can be done by removing this short loom and carefully slitting open the sheath and finding the broken crimp - this can be replaced with another crimp or soldered and shrink-wrapped, then tape up the sheath with black insulating tape. All this bother may not appeal but bear in mind a new one is around £100 !!!.

Right Lads I stripped the front Of the bike down removed the tank & released the loom as I slit it open I found that it was full of water, as mentioned in previous threads the crimp connectors were all corroded the earth was by far the worst in fact as i was cleaning/ inspecting it the wires crumbled in my hands. I cut all the bad wiring out & soldered in new & heat shrinked each joint, then used self eneling tape to replace origional sheathing, plugged it back in & tested, Heh Presto !!!!!! good as new,
A very big thanks lads for all the advice, this was sending me mad as I new it was an earth fault but every time I tried to trace it I had no luck.

Just to summerise the symtoms;
1/ Ignition lamp glows [only just] when in neutral
2/ Neutral lamp not very bright
3/ Ignition lamp glows with low fuel lamp
4/ Intermittent neutral/ignition lamps when bike first switched on
5/ All lamps in the idiot strip glow dimly
