HI Guys

I'm needing a little help here. I have a 99' 1100GS

my neutral light which always was a bit slow to react, it is now getting worse, and the bikes over due it's MOT, so will fail on this.I've had a look at the manual but I'm no better off, could somebody point me in the right direction.

I've checked the bulb and holder and all seems okay, the RID works fine but I'm unsure whether the neutral switch and gear indicator switch are seperate items or the same item, the manual is total unclear on this issue

so I can try and troubleshoot this a bit better I'm needing some basic info, sorry if I'm asking old questions but the search engine didn't bring up any answers

1. is the RID and neutral light on the same switch mechanism?

2. where does the wire for the switch come out so I can check continuity/function

3. if it turns out to be the switch (I hope not) how hard is this to replace from the manual it would suggest it's a total strip of the gearbox to get at it  but I've read on this forum that this doesn't need to be the case but it was unclear what varient of GS was being talked about

any help is appreciated
cheers

Does the gear indicator work Ok .

is it just the neutral light thats slow to react ?

Try cleaning where the switch plugs into the loom first before dismantling and buying parts, it's on the left hand side frame tube, tucked up by the side of the fuse box, and can get bad corrosion in the plug .

The switch itself is two parts - one for the neutral light, and one for the gear indication, so you need buy whatever part is needed. It's on the back of the gearbox, but is a pain to get to and bolted in place ( unlike the 1150). But you don't have to dismantle the gearbox. Just half the rear end :D

my neutral light is now allways off, but the starter works very well. is this just the bulb?
