Hi all. I took delivery of my new all black 07 1200GS on Sept 11. Since that time I have ridden her daily, with much joy. Initially it took some getting used to, as I have been on 4 wheels for quite some time. Anyway, I simply love the bike. She went in for her first service 7 days ago with no issues, and came out running a wee bit smoother. Yesterday I was at the dealer to see if I could switch out the low seat for a regular seat. I have found the low seat to be quite limiting when it comes to moving about. At that time I checked in with the service department to question about a light vibration or hop, and was wondering if the wire wheels needed a closer inspection to make sure they were true. A tech came out, and offered to test ride her and make an inspection in the shop. I thought that was bloody good service for a drop in visit. Now for the news.... I ended up getting a lift back home, as the final drive in knackered, and will be replaced under warranty. I have kept a close eye on the final drive looking for fluid leaks, but have found nothing. It will most likely be laid up in the shop for about a week as it waits for delivery of new final drive. Needless to say, I am dissapointed, mostly because I am on my scheduled 4 days off, the sun is now shining, and I really want to ring up the miles. I must say, the service at the dealer appears to be top notch, and the tech was very good at dealing with me. No complaints there. As for the final drive issue? It's all covered under warranty, so I am not concerned.

Finally, I have spent many hours on this site, overloading myself with information from everyone. Great bunch of folks here!! thanks.
(How do I attach a photo?? I can't seem to figure this simple task out!!)

edit: thanks for the help! Photo attached!!

Update: Just got off the phone with tech at dealer. It appears the tech "over reacted” and all is well. While there is some free-play of less than 1mm at the outer edge of the rim, it is apparently within spec as per BMW. He will get a second opinion on the original complaint from another tech, and I should have it back this evening. Wish me luck!

Glad to hear all is well with the bike. Hope you have fun with it.

Looks good

It is a beautiful looking machine - and I will give mine one of its infrequent washes tomorrow and it will look just as good and it probably runs smoother than yours. The difference is that I think my transmission has been rumbling for three years now - but that's how BMW's are (well, the boxers anyway.)Mine also has the GSA screen and deflectors - a worthwile but expensive modification.
