New 1200GS

Leave the poor guy alone.
Let him buy a new one.
He has obviously been feeling lonely. Riding his bike places and coming home again. He has never experienced the joys of sitting peacefully at the side of a beautiful road, soaking in the view, listening to the exhaust tinkling and the birds whistling. Waiting with anticipation for that sparkling conversation with the recovery truck man.
He has probably never sat in a lorry before with his elbow out the window.
And arriving home, he has never engaged in the witty repartee that follows after posting his story of woe ont site.
The man is lonely and you have maybe made him worse. You could be responsible for another tragic suicide ... and it would be your fault ... think about that you heartless bastids.

Go now, you still have time. The dealer might still be open.

Thanks to you all for your words of wisdom, I got my current bike in April 06 when I swapped it for my K1200s which I could never get to grips with, It's my first GS even though I had wanted one for years I was scared of changing from the K series, now I have I wish that I had done it years ago, when I got this bike it had 5,000 miles on it so it's not that I don't ride it and I have 2 trips booked and paid for across the water this year, It's just that now I know I love the GS so much I think I would like to start with one from day one, anyone understand that? I do go off road as well but not so much that it would warrant a GSA. I had a call from Vines late on Friday evening, with a promise that they would phone back on Saturday, they never did, anyway thanks again, I'ts nice to get lots of opinions. :thumb

Like minded soul

Just done exactly what you are planning. Traded an 04 GS12 with 20K on the clock for a brand new bike speced as I want it. My first GS was also second hand and I always wanted a new one to run in myself. I got a brilliant deal from Richard at Wollaston Motors in Northampton and would recommend you give him a call. They were way out in front of all the other dealers I tried. Of course the dealers were all trying to make their end of year targets before Christmas so things might not be so generous now.
Have a look on the BMW web site and check out the specs cos they have just changed. Chrome exhaust has become a no cost option instead of £80 and ASC (Anti slip control) is now an option.
Good luck with the new bike

Thanks for advice, 2 things, what is ASC? and what advantage is a chrome exhaust? my experience of chrome is on old jap bikes where the exhaust rots in approx 18 months!

Hello all,

Thats true, when you go in the dealer shop and look at the latest GS,glossy and immaculate, new colors, you feel like a kid in a toys store, and its just a great sentiment when you ride the first miles of a brand new motorcycle. This feeling is just priceless :bow . But unfortunately it doesnt last, and as we all are quite adictive to biking,we have to do the thing (buying) again and again.:tears . So for me,what I do to avoid temptation :-first, I dont go to the shop just hanging around, unless for servicing, and two,I dont buy anything if I dont have the money in cash.No more credit for me,ever!:thumb

ASC is a sort of torque control, stops the rear spinning under acceleration, hardly an on road problem on such a low powered bike (IMHO). Chrome exhausts go blue not brown but then stainless might look worse but last longer (but I've never seen a beeemer with peeling chrome so I guess that's not really a problem). Stainless discolour the moment you start the bike and gradually loose their shine unless you clean then with metal polish every few weeks.

I thought that the chrome pipes are still stainless underneath the chrome.

I have been offered an 07 model, with ABS for a price of £3800 with my bike, 16k, service history, ABS, Heated grips, good condition, is this good or should I hang on a bit and try for better deal?

Looks like you may be getting around the £6k mark for yours? How many dealers have you tried/ £100 in fuel and a couple of days riding now may make you £500...worth the time?
If it was a £2k to change margin, I'd go for it...as its nearer £4k. I'd stick with what I have

I can fully understand that you want to own a bike from day one............I would strongly consider trading for a new bike with 2 years warranty! The price of £3800 seems a bit stiff but a little bit of haggling and it is not much along with £1k per year. You would be very lucky to get £6,500 for your bike privately and equally lucky to get a new one for £9,500 so after a lot of advertising, false hopes, and general tyre kicking..........Just my opinion mind but around £3,300/3,400 would tempt me...........;)

Logic,

I think too many people think that there is anything locical about motorcycling. Go ahead and do want you want to do. However do try and get as many extras as possible 'thrown in.' Heated grips are essential, ABS is also a must these days, and have all the baggage you can get - cases, top-box, tank bag, AND crash bars. Why not ask for an Adventure screen - they can only say 'no' but it is a straight fit & a definite improvemnet. Then as you are about to seal the deal say' what about a couple of these new bluetooth helmets!' I don't think you could push them for a GPS because the BMW one is very expensive. 'Alarms are a waste of money unless your insurance will gve you a rebate. Here 'tatooing' of all parts is mandatory as is a U-lock - otherwise no one will insure against theft.
You should have a lot of fun -is there noone you can take with you - spending someone else's money is always a pleasant sensation.
(Stick to BMW extras - then it will be easier to trade in - next year?)

Gonna go tomorrow to do the deal tomorrow, gonna get a grey one, I hate wheeling and dealing, I am no good at it, although I think I will ask for crash bars, at no cost. They want me to seal the deal this month, why's that? any idea's?

Hey k12(r12):D
I think you should phone a few dealers just to keep them honest......i know the weather is nasty but a wee spin to say Bristol would give you a stick to beat "your" dealer with:thumb As you said in your thread starter, if money is an issue, why throw even the smallest amount away unnecessarily!!!!!!! Anyway, many happy (and safe) miles with whatever you buy:D
David.

buying a split new bike is fun but buying an almost new run in example is just as good. I traded my 1150RT for a 3 month old 12GSA last November and have done ( as of Friday night) almost 4,000 miles on it. Point is .... I saved over £2500 on a new one!

Try to find a <1 year old example to your spec and save loads of dosh.

Sod it chap you only live once get a new one it will look good in the garage also i have ridden an 07 model with abs but no servos its a lot better than mine with servo you could even get the same colour and not tell the other half just say you cleaned it very well lol:D

headman, I've done that several times. This time I simply did not mention it until we parked the car in the garage next to the bike last weekend and she spotted it was not silver any more but white/black.

She's not said anything but I know I'm in trouble

:thumb still thinking about it, but without to much detail, if I don't do it now I may never get another chance, so sod it, going to Vines at 10am, do the deal, about to lose my job, house, etc, but I will have a new bike!!! got tickets for two channel crossings, and a few hundred euros. Watch me go!!
