New Akro Can

Ta for the part number.

Just ordered it through my dealer and they're gonna fit it when the bikes pitches up next month.

No,it's the part number for the end can.

UK retail is £495 inc vat.

All Akrapovic stuff is expensive, but is by far the best quality, bar none.

BMW seem to have notched the price up a tad further by selling it through their own system

Ordered can on Thursday morning, arrived at dealers by lunchtime Friday. Rushed over after work and 20 minutes of spanner weilding later and it's on. Rode home but disappointed with the sound. It wasn't much fruitier than the standard can. 5 minutes with 8mm socket and baffle removed. Sounds great. Thanks for the part number. :thumb

and yes, the std luggage goes on fine.

:)

I'm confused. Vines and SPC said they would just order the Akra pipe from a company called Performance Parts ie just what I could do from Nippy Normans. I called BMW Customer Services this morning (0800 777 114) and spoke to Paul. He said that BMW have not approved the Akra and he was unaware of any plan to.

well if it's not approved by BMW then why do they have an official part number for it and sell it themselves ?

Tell Vines to stick

71607702466 in the computer.

You're absolutely right. I rode round to SLM in Caterham this morning to see and hear the Akra for myself. They had it on a GSA1200. So yes its official for both HP2 and GS/GSA1200. How can BMW HQ, Vines and SPC all be in the dark?

Thumbs up to Simon at SLM, great service. I've attached a few details from the official BMW brochure.

Performance Parts are the UK distributer for Akra, the can they would supply would be exactly the same as any non BMW dealer could supply and it is not "approved" by BMW.

The "official" BMW can stamped with their part number has a titanium sleeve and internals and comes with the badge etched onto the sleeve as can be seen from the photgraphs.

The BMW official can is £495, the Akra can is £419 (with titanium innners)

Does this can affect your warranty as it is supplied by bm ? I have been led to believe that if you have a problem with your bike and an aftermarket can is fitted you might not get warranty!

How an after-market can affect the usual warranty claim items such as corroded engine covers, faulty abs and seat rubbers is a mystery to me. :eek

The BMW can sounds completely different than the Akra, can i had both of them and much prefer the BMW one, first of all its better built, its got two locking bolts on the can strap, plus its got a much better baffle arrangement in the fact that there is a built in spark arrestor int he removable baffle, meaning theres less popping, suits some wont suit others, personally i like that.
I also like the eteched in AKRAPOVIC logo instead of the Akra sticker its more in and with the GS theme.
I use it with remus headers and made a huge difference to my waterpump its a lot faster now with lots more top speed.

My bike is arriving next Wednesday.

I've ordered the BMW Akrapovic as per above, but my dealer who is a muppet is not sure whether the can should be fitted from new or after the first service.

I've told them to shove it on when they PDI it but they are 'going to find out' if they can ' !

I won't be getting the servicing done with them, but being on an island I didn't have a lot of choice when I ordered the bike !

The GS is being fitted with one by Simon @ SLM on Friday. Woo hoo!
