Evening, I am looking to replace the battery on my 2014 R1200GS, which one would you recommend and from where?

Thanks for the help

Stick your reg. no in here https://www.tayna.co.uk/ and it should find the right size.

It will recommend their own make but click the "show all options" thing. Next day delivery is excellent.

Look for the Exide AGM (not gel). For my R1200RS and S1000XR they were under £40 delivered. I have since sold the XR with a 2 year old Exide but my RS is starting the 3rd winter with the Exide fitted.

Yuasa YTX14H-BS - this is the heavy duty version of the standard battery and has 240CCA so better cold starts, and spins over a tad quicker when starting. There are a number of places in the UK you can get this from, I got mine from Halfords - although do check that its a recent battery into stock.

Only a few quid more than the standard YTX14-BS, but worth the extra few pennies for what it provides. Replaced my failed battery about 3 years ago with one and its been brilliant ever since.

Motobatt do a compatible version as well

they also do a hybrid one too, meant to be the muts

Just for balance I’ve had two MotoBatts and they’ve both needed replacing around the year mark.
Always been kept on maintenance charger.
Disappointing.

Just for further balance, we have had a motobatt on one of our blood bikes for over a year and I have one on my own bike and they have been fine. Both maintained on an optimate as well.

Am I really unlucky? 🤕
Or, you extremely fortunate….. 👍👍

Just doing a search and came across this thread. I have a Motobatt which has been on optimate for last three months here in Finland for the winter on my 2010 GSA. Had a check today and all is dead on the bike. Turn on ignition and see the milage and clock for a few seconds but thats it. No lights nothing, Optimate not doing its job or what I have no clue. I took the battery off and my car charger says its full...holding about 12.6 and does not attempt to charge it.

I tried boosting with my Noco GB40..Nothing. I can only assume the battery is fooked another way or could be something worse on the bike. Dont see what could have happened putting a way a perfectly running bike and switching it off haha. Anyway I will buy another battery tomorrow.

If I still have same problem then start again. :)

Sounds very much like my experience ☹️
Put the bike away after a decent ride, check after a few weeks and the Optimate is indicating amber/red. Sometimes I get a green 🤔🙂👍
Same result when the battery is disconnected from the machine (i.e. no possible current draw from the bike).

Definitely a battery cell is dropping its charge and it seems more noticeable in the cold ambient temperatures.

Just getting round to this, my hand book states batter is to be 12V, 12 Ah and an AGM design. This battery and the majority of others are VRLA design. Is this a show stopper?

This looks like a winner, correct V, Ah and construction (AGM)

this is better in my view, and cheaper

I have a Victron Smart charger, which has been a great bit of kit. It will charge most types of battery and is app operated, although you can operate it via the buttons on the unit. Its also IP65.IMG_1581.jpeg
