Need a new battery for a 2005 plate gs.
Anyone know where the best place to get one from, and should I go like for like or use another type.

Also what are your thoughts on using a optimate.

Cheers

Rich

Wales is a big place - if you want a recommendation for a retail shop then give us a clue.

If you want mail order then www.tayna.co.uk is highly regarded. http://www.tayna.co.uk/ODYSSEY-PC535-P3103.html read the reviews

Your original battery lasted 5 years, which is good. So a direct replacement from a BMW dealer might be a good idea. Again, there are mail order options if you aren't near Cardiff - http://www.motorworks.co.uk/ being the obvious choice, about £110 delivered (a bit of a shock as an R1150 battery is only £70). The have a cheap lead-acid alternative if you want to be buying a new one in a couple of years (or are due to sell the bike soon).

I use an Optimate 24/7 when I'm not riding my bike.

The OE lead-acid battery lasted a few weeks short of 10 years.

Nowhere near Greg's record, but I also use an Optimate and my battery is still OK after 5years. It just seems to be a matter of luck whether bikes of this age were fitted with a decent battery or not.

I just bought a Motobatt AGM jobbie off eBay - seems ok so far and the right sort of money at change from £55 delivered. Whether or not an Odyssey would be better in the long run - who knows? search for MBTX12U & you should find similar.

Cheers, Jon

Halfords do an Exide YTX14-BS 12 AH Type AGM they recommend for GSs at about £60 I think. Anyone used them? Mine is OE at 4 years old and lives on an Aldi version Optimate, still has all its juices..

I have just recieved a secondhand battery from James Sherlock. I wouldn't normally entertain secondhand where batteries are concerned but when I called enquiring what he had available, he offered a variety of new batteries including BMW's own, which is made by exide, he happened to mention he had a couple of secondhand batteries that he had taken of new machines he had broken, but couldn't sell as new, and so at £30.00 I thought I'd have a pop, It arrived today, looks like it just fell out of the packet and seems to be in perfect order.:thumb

It's a BMW battery, which are £100 new

My Yuasa equivilents are less than £30:D

Chester Exhaust Supplies on a trade account admittedley.

If I'd wanted a yuasa I would have shopped for one, as it is I have purchased a battery that has been manufactured for BMW by exide at a fraction of the cost, Whats yer problem

The brainless F*%£wits that you come across on here from time to time, that s a bit unfair I know, cos if you had a brain you would see that from my original reply i was only offering my experience over the same problem, but there's always one D*&^$ad that has to stamp on a thread.

Only one person stamping here and it appears to be yourself, mind you dont squash yer dummy into the carpet!
An Exide battery with BMW stamped on it is no better than and Exide battery with Exide stamped on it therefore a second hand Exide battery with BMW stamped on it is only better if you are looking to a budget which the Yuasa battery will fullfill admirably.
And if you read my initial post I say that if ANYONE thats ANYONE near my Location in North Wales wants a battery I will get onefor them,on the works account, nothing in it for me,no profit nothing just trying to help out.
But thats something a brainless fukwit label queen would not have the mental capacity to grasp!
I do so understand about "the brainless F*%£wits that you come across on here from time to time".

Have a nice day :aidan

P.S
Whats a "D*&^$ad "
