New bike and a question about Hex Ezcam and lights

Good evening all

I have just bought my first GS, a '63 1200 GS TE from Williams Motorrad, where I received excellent service. I was astounded by how fantastic the demo felt and it was difficult to look beyond this model! The only issue which arose was the fitting of my Garmin Sat Nav. Despite BMW's own Nav being Garmin derived, it wasn't as straightforward as it should have been to use a non OEM sat nav.

Which brings me to aux lights, also seemingly an issue which BMW have sought to make as difficult as possible unless you opt for the very expensive OEM. After a bit of searching just like many others it seems, the Hex Ezcam caught my attention. I have seen several threads and The Missenden Flyer's helpful video about the Hex Ezcam and I am very interested in the product but a little apprehensive due to the need to import.

I know there are other threads about the availability of the product, but I'm after any views from people who have fitted on in the UK/Europe - any operational or warranty issues? On a side note, any more views on the Mictuning lights in TMF's video? They look fantastic value.

Mate, I get guys buying the ezcan but I wonder why bother unless u own a pot of gold!

My bike is just over a year old and I have fitted extra lights, gps tracker and nextbase ride camera with no problems! 12+ve is easy enough to get and wire from.

But ezcan does look good, I just can't be bothered spending more than I need to!

Oh and never had a problem with BMW motorrad warranty in fact just had a new engine under warranty

I can vouch for the lights (and the brackets) used by TMF. For the money, they are exceptional. Very well made, compact and very bright. The brackets, which cost more than the lights, again are very well made. The point for the light to fix to can rotate through 360 degrees at 45 degree increments.

Yes, the set up is expensive but imho well worth it.

I have been looking around at information on relay installations and happened upon the DRL relays, these appear to sense starting of the engine from voltage conditions at the battery and switch the feed to the led drls.
Furthermore they remain on for a short period after ignition off, they will dim the output when the headlight is switched on (n/a on bike)
Some of them will dim the drl on the side that is indicating, not sure if alternating with the indicator, suspect so.
But the one I found this morning will also strobe the drls if the 'green wire' goes live, i.e. If connected to,the horn.

The functionality sounds similar to Ezcan!!
Any thoughts?

In terms of functionality as far as DRL are concerned, it seems very similar but with slightly less customisation. However, it still involves connecting to the headlights and indicators and horn whereas the EZCan leaves the OEM wiring untouched. How would that connection be done? A SERIOUS saving though!

Completed the installation yesterday to include the re-wiring of the twin tone FIAMM horns straight to the ezCAN.. I can vouch for the 'easy install'. Very straight forward and worked first time. Hardest part was the routing of the wires through the frame for the lights and horn so that they are nicely hidden but then I am a bit OCD like. Final set up this evening for the light spread.

The front lights are directly plugged in to the ezcan, and the extra back lights exactly the same. Simply plugs in to the ezcan. You do receive stub connectors with the unit

I thinks the lights most people here are getting don't have wiring with them. They have to wire themselves. I could be wrong.

I bought 10m of "2 Core Twin Thinwall Red/Black 12V Auto Automotive Marine Cable Wire Wiring Loom" from eBay.

More than enough for the wiring of the twin FIAMM horns and the lights. Simple spade connectors at the lights and then at the ezCAN so that if i have any issues I can just unplug.

I chose the option on the ezCAN set up to have the lights running into 1 of the connectors and the horns to the other, leaving a spare for the auxillary plug and then the last for the additional brake light. I haven't done the brake yet as I am still looking for the right LED light to go on and where to fix it too. I did a short video on it... see my previous post.

No problem... thickness of the cable is not an issue. When routing through the bike, try to stay away from the really hot parts. (engine, exhaust, headers etc).

All i did was make sure that the wire was good enough for at least 12V. The ezCAN has the built in relay to cover the amps and these can be set up within the software on the laptop.
